These two games launch this month. They are both MMORPG games. EQ 2 is the sequel to the highly popular EverQuest (which I played a bit off and on for a year or so) while WoW is World of Warcraft and based on the world of the Warcraft fanchise of games.

I for one haven't played either in their current "Beta" status, but keep up on them.

Is anyone here playing either one or planning to purchase and/or subscribe when they are launched?

Oh there's also the MMORPG (quasi at best) "Guild Wars" which looks good to me.

CS, I am looking into Guild Wars myself...it isn't a pay as you go MMORPHG, and it looked pretty good a gew months ago when I looked at it.

I have heard taht EQ@ is great though....I might do that one, although I never played the first beyond messing around at friends house once. I have friends who were very intrested in EQ, and I might hook up with some of them.

I had a very bad experience with a MMORPHG, City of Heroes, when I bought a pre-paid card that wouldn't load, so I am wary of doing another....but I know people who have been doing the pre-paid EQ for years without a hitch.

Whatever you do, let Hatrack know...there are a lot of hard-core gamers here, and I am sure you will be able to hook up with some of them if you want to do so.

Guild Wars is purportedly not a subscription based game. They intend on paying for their bandwidth/servers by releasing speedy "expansions" one right after another.

We'll see if that model works.

I've been playing SWG since August last year. I'm extremely bored with it though, and while my account is still active, I haven't logged in to it in 2 or 3 weeks now. I've been planning to go to EQ2 with the rest of my "SoA guild" (many of whom have also left SWG and are waiting for EQ2 impatiently), but now. . . I don't know. I played SWG for the people more than the game, and I made a lot of friends there outside of my guild too, so. . . I don't know. I actually started playing NWN again when I stopped SWG, and have been having an absolute blast, and I'm even thinking about digging Morrowind out again. Disciples 2, HMM3, Civ3, BG2 . . . lots of games that are still good that I can play and don't need the monthly fee.

I'll see how I feel when all my friends are pestering me to start playing EQ2 with them. It's how I started SWG after all. . . . .

Edit to add: I don't care to play RTS games, and so I didn't care for WarCraft, so I don't care to play a game based in that world. Of course, I've never played in Norrath either (did I spell that right?) but it seems "cooler" to me, so. . . I'll do EQ2 before WoW.

When I saw the title of the thread, I thought, "Elders Quorum 2 vs. the Word of Wisdom? WTH?"

Despite Kwea's misgivings, I've been subscribed to City of Heroes and for a casual gamer like me, it's perfect.

I like Morrowind. I haven't played it in a while but should when I get a chance. (not enough time dangit!)

I never got into NWN or Diablo, Dungeon Siege, etc.

My computer won't run EQ2. It's not up to snuff enuff. [Wink]

CoH was tons of fun, then suddenly, without warning, it became incredibly boring and I don't even know what changed =(

I'm slightly interested in EQ2.
GuildWars I will be buying, and WoW I will be buying and playing.
GuildWars because the only other payments I'd ever have to make would be if I wanted more content that I didn't have yet.
WoW because I played the Stress Test (BTW: You can get a FilePlanet subscription right now and get into the next stress test, I'm holding out to see if they open it up to the public again.) - WoW is very 'Quest' based versus what EQ1 was, which is quite unfair to compare the two. Although I really enjoyed WoW compared to the time I played EQ. I did test several other MMO's around the time up to this point. WoW just has more culture that already exists, because of the other games, and GuildWars is really easy to just jump in because of the way it is instanced for everyone; yet you can party still with complete strangers or friends, and it is easier to meet up with people in GW because there is only 1 server, yet many 'Districts' of each place you go, the amount of districts relies on the amount of people per in that area total. It seemed to me each district had about 30-50 people maximum.

This month will be quite busy as I am an obsessive gamer, Halo2 in 6 days, Half-Life 2 in 13, and I'm also getting Nintendo's new handheld the DS on the 21st. I will be interested to see what EQ2 is like, but because it has such stingant hardware requirements, I will wait until I upgrade to a PCI-Express Athlon 64 system with at least 1 Geforce 6600 GT.

If you have any specific questions about anything above just ask [Smile]

A buddy of mine is in the beta test for Matrix Online.

He enjoys it so far - and as yet, there hasn't been a rash of "Silver Ranger" syndrome.
