I could really use some way to get rid of this headache. I've had it all day and when I took aspirine it didn't do anything. Sleeping didn't help it just made it worse. And its not because I'm hungry, I just ate. Does anyone have anyways to stop a headache??? Please! *moans*

Dunno...Tylenol always does it for me. Two extra strength. I found a solution that works for me and I'm sticking with it. Sure it's not a sinus headache?

Try the pressure points right at the base of the gap between your thumb and first finger. Press on the one on the side that hurts with the other hand. (It should hurt initially, too, if you do it right, but then move on past pain.) Press for 20 seconds, and release. Repeat.

mack, you have caused me to hurt in three places. My foot, my chest, and my eye. The head started out that way.

Also, try gently rubbing in circles directly under where the pain is. Then move back and down toward the neck. Rub the tension down to the neck, then out. (This one will work for a tension or noise headache, but not necessarily any other kind.)

Oh, and are you drinking enough water?

Is it really a migraine, or just a really really bad headache? 'Cause different things work for migraines. I'm assuming you just have a really bad headache. If you have a real migraine, visualization works for me if I can concentrate enough to do it.

By aspirin, do you mean actual aspirin? Or something like tylenol or advil? 'Cause they're all different.

And you CAN take tylenol and advil together.

My nephew used to get really bad migraines. He started taking fever-fu and he quit getting them.

Migraine for me. Started yesterday at church. Immediately when it started, I drank four cups of water because I know dehydration can affect me. I also took ibuprofen, and on the way home, bought a Pepsi for caffeine. (Normally don't shop on Sundays, but for migraine relief, all bets are off.) I left church because of the visual disturbances and dropping blood pressure. I felt like I was going to pass out. Made it home, lay down for a few hours, but it's still here.

The pain isn't too bad, the visual disturbances were gone, but they're back now, but fortunately still mild. I'm still zombie-like, with disorientation.

Good migraine drugs don't exist in my neighborhood, and I don't get migraines often enough now to fill an actual prescription.

I also tiger-balmed my head, cuz that can help.

It's still not gone. I would love more suggestions. I'm trying that pressure point between thumb and finger thingy.

I lay down in the dark and quiet, and I usually take Excedrin migraine or Tylenol-1s. Ibuprofen sometimes works, too. The caffiene and codiene are what really work for me.

A nice cool cloth over my eyes helps.

Also, I find sometimes massaging my temples helps.

The last migraine advice thread.
an accupressure method I used to do on hubby was to walk the fingers up the imaginary line up the center of the scalp, pressing hard. Starting from the back and going forward.

I started getting this migraine just before bed last night when it was too late to drink caffeine.

Now I'm sitting at work with blurry vision. (My husband is off work today and in our cozy cozy bed.) This one is really really bad. light/sound sensitivity. intollerance to heat/cold. And of course I keep trying to pop my left eye out cuz that's where the pain is.

I took my special migrain remedy... Advil, Sudafed and Coffee but it hasn't helped yet. I expect it to last till bedtime too because they usually last 24 hrs. And if I'm lucky and it ends quickly I'll have migrain-washout the rest of the day.

Imitrex gave me heart palpatations. And didn't work all that well either. For all the glory that is modern medicine they just can't seem to fix a migraine without a shot that doesn't do anything but knock you out. The human body is incredibly complicated and fixing it is a bit like trying to fix the lawn mower while it's running.

So yeah, all I can do is ride it out and hope this isn't the kind that when it's done it just says "Hey, Let me go to the RIGHT side of the head for a day or two."

On a brighter note, drinking vast ammounts of the extra strong coffee here at work has dimmed the pain significantly. yay!

Maybe we can get Noemon to link to his Anti-Migraine Gun story.

I am impatient for the dissemination of it.

Get a slurpee or something similar, and drink really fast to get brain freeze. When the brain freezr goes away, it might take the headache with it. I've had great success with this in the early stages of a headache, but haven't tried it for an old one.

I have nasty side effects with imitrex as well. Sent me to the hospital. Can't take cafergot either - hallucinations, both auditory and visual, as well as delusions.

Mine is still here. I'm at 36 hours and counting. However, and on the bright side, this is definitely the mildest I've ever had. I'm not actually crying from the pain, or blind, or deaf, I can still understand English and tell time, I'm not paralyzed anywhere, I'm still literate, and basically at a reduced functionality level. I have a nasty nasty history of them.

I've been relaxing, napping, and otherwise taking it easy. I'm hopeful that it will be gone tomorrow. Meanwhile, I have insomnia at the moment, most likely caused by my caffeine chasers. [Sleep]

He's asleep. And he has to be up early, so waking him up would not be good.

But yes, you have a great suggestion, and I know that works, so yes, I ought to. Problem is, when I have a migraine, I have no memory. Serious gaps. I mean, worse than nermal. [Angst]

Jenni gets them all the time, an ends up missing work because of them....she types all day long at a relay center for the deaf, so she can;t work with one at all.

She is on Zomeg, and it usually works, at least better than the Imotrex did.

Yep, I'm now at over 48 hours. [Frown] And I'm not happy.

Still light-headed, dizzy, unable to walk without looking drunk. Lot of pressure in that skull of mine. Light stuff is back again. Pain. You know, the usual. [Grumble]

Um, is there something going on that's affecting so many of us at the same time? Like, I don't know, a solar storm or something? Cuz we're in different parts of the world, so it's not likely to be the same storm system, ya know what I mean?

Pix, this is a little late, I know, but have you tried Zomig? I've had great success with it. I used to be knocked out at least 3-4 days each month with a migraine. Nothing helped except a dark room and lots of water. I tried Tylenol, Advil, Aleev, pretty much everything OTC available. Trying Zomig the first time was like a short trip to heaven. No pain, and the headache didn't return.

As one person said, the only apparent side effect is that it has turned me into a walking Zomig advertisement.

Steve, wear sunglasses to class if they will let you. Keep up with the water and don't eat any chocolate. (Chocolate is a common migraine trigger.)

I haven't tried Zomig. I'll ask my doctor next time I see her.

My migraine went away for about 12 hours and is now on the other side of my head. Fortunately it's MUCH weaker and (unless it gets worse) hardly deserves to be called a migraine.

I get bad migraines several times a month but lately have been getting a few that are even more severe and which basically do not allow me to function (ie - severe pain along with severe nausea and vomiting). Normally, I take OTC BC powders (aspirin, salicylamide, caffeine) - bad for me, I know, but they are about the only thing that touches the migraines. BC's have no effect whatsoever on these new ones.

Yesterday, the doctor gave me a sample of a new (?) migraine medicine - Maxalt (Rizatriptan). [Side note - listed possible side effects are nausea, headache, and vomiting which is exactly why I would be taking the medicine in the first place! Egads!]

Anybody have any experience with Maxalt?

Flickering screens definitely do not help migraines, or headaches of any type for that matter -
