I normally like this awards ceremony because it tends to be unpredictable for most categories.
I was very surprised by nominations made in two categories this year though.
Best Performance in a Voice Over Role for a Young Artist- I thought “young artist” was defined as a minor; someone under the age of eighteen. Sara Vowell was nominated in this category for her portrayal of Violet Parr in The Incredibles. While I think she did a fantastic job voicing Violet, a teen-age character, she was born in 1969. She is thirty-five years old. I honestly wonder if the group behind the Young Artist Awards knows this. If this category osopen to adults then why did they not nominate Holly Hunter, who also did a fantastic job in The Incredibles?
I was also disturbed by Garden State receiving a nomination for “Best Family Feature Film- Drama.” This film was rate “R” for good reasons. The language alone would have gotten it an “R” rating and the drug use only reiterated that decision. If I had kids I would not allow them to see this film. Is it appropriate for an organization like Young Artists to be advocating this movie as a “Family Film”?
Any thoughts?
