How is it possible I didn't hear about this being published? I was waiting for my wife to get done at the bookstore last night, so I took a stroll past the sci-fi. There it was, in full hardcover glory. I couldn't help myself. I started hyperventilating, grabbed it and held it tightly.

Only about 40 pages in, but Davy is is a hell of a spot and I don't see how he's going to get out of it.

I do predict a very bad end for the bad guys, though.

Stephen Gould rocks.

I wish you hadn't mentioned that. I already bought Allen M. Steele's new book today and now I have to get this one. I'm going broke...

Hmm. $7 more and I'll get free shipping from Amazon. Hmm...

Awesome!

He also wrote a novel with his wife, called Greenwar, that I have never seen in a bookstore.

EDITED for Noemon [Razz]

It was there -- I got one -- but not for very long, I guess.

I wonder how the brick bookstores, where space is at a premium and they can't afford to carry midlist books, much less backstock, are dealing with online stores like Amazon that can carry everything. Maybe that's what the coffee is for...

Odd name for a woman, Greenwar. Be odd for anyone, man or woman, really.

Finished it last night.

Oh. My. God.

When I put down the book, I was sweating and my heart was racing. It took almost an hour before I felt normal again.

How to write like Stephen Gould:

1. Put your protagonist in an impossible situation.

2. Make the situation worse.

3. Make it worse than that.

4. Make the protagonist win, without using any of the standard lame tricks or cop-outs.

Sorry OSC, but I have a new favorite author. After reading jumper and wildside, I was sure he couldn't top it. But he did.

My hat is off to you, sir. [Hat]

I wouldn't go quite that far, but I'd say he's a good fourth or fifth.

He needs to write a lot more, for one thing.

Got mine Monday, didn't get to it until last night.

Finished it around 2 a.m..

Mental note: stop reading Steven Gould nights before I have to work...

Wow. I wish I had the kind of job where my time at home was mine enough to read a whole novel in one night.

Oh, I bought my copy, btw. Don't know how soon I'll get to it, though.

That's because you actually read the homework. C'mon, Ic, catch up to the 21st century! As long as the kid shows up, doesn't shoot anybody and manages not to eat the FCAT, it's all good.

Teachers with integrity. I don;t know what this world is coming to.
