So, I just got my ears pierced in January. I woke up this morning, and one of my ears ITCHES right around the earring. It isn't swollen or crusty, it's a bit red, but could be from me moving the earring to try and relieve the itching.

I've put the antiseptic on it and rotated it. I did that the other day and it HURT. o_O So apparently it got stuck.
I'm considering just taking them out entirely, as it seems they're more trouble than they're worth. They get stuck on my fencing mask!

Soak you piercings in sea salt water. I have several piercings and this is what I was told to do by the guy that does my piercings. He said that peroxide and other antiseptic solutions actually irritate the piercings. Also you can put Bactracin on the area.
You can get sea salt at Wal-mart it is with the normal salt and other spices. I think it cost about a buck.

I don't know, Teshi - all my existential angst melted away when I got my ears pierced. Also, the Berlin Wall came down when they got infected and scabby.
So, really, taking them out shouldn't even be an option.

You know those little cysts that you sometimes get in your earlobes? The ones that, if you squeeze them hard enough to burst them, really hurt and get all hot? Those are filled with existential angst. Piercing the ears allows the angst to flow out as fast as it builds up.

I think existential angst is also a lubricating agent in pus, so popping zits has roughly the same effect.

Yeah, but the ear ring holes serve as a kind of permenant tap for the angst, so as an added plus you get fewer zits. Of course, if you're feeling particularly angsty and have pierced ears it's a good idea to tape maxipads to your shoulders so as to avoid getting angst stains on your shirts.

She's right. The situation you're describing there is usually to blame when someone's head a splodes.

You know that blue liquid they're always pouring on maxipads and diapers in commercials? That's mostly just angst and blue food coloring.

I stopped wearing earrings regularly about 8 years ago, and I don't think they have totally healed over. That is, I wear them maybe every 6 months. Kids are hell on earrings.
Also, I started sleeping on this hard asian pillow and it hurts a lot worse if I leave them on at night.

It's quite possible that you have a nickel allergy. Nickel is often used in stainless steel posts and to alloy-harden gold jewelry. "Contact allergic dermatitis to nickel may develope at any age"

Except my posts are titanium. (My sister is allergic to nickel, so I took no chances). My wedding ring is also titanium and my finger shows now allergic reaction.

I thought the ideal earpiercing material was gold. I know because I *hate* gold, but I had to wear gold studs when I got mine pierced (both times).

You might also check the ingredients in the antiseptic they gave you. When I got my ears pierced many years ago, I used the solution they gave me to clean them and it caused much swelling, itching, and pain. When I switched to H202 or alcohol it went away. There were some salts/minerals in the solution that I was sensitive to. Of course it's more likely that the hole you just punched in your ear is trying to scab over and heal, but it's earitated by the hunk of metal sitting there .
