Argh. So I washed my hands several times during the course of preparing the chili. Especially since I handled raw meat and fresh jalapenos in the process.
So, I'm minding my own business and playing Halo2 with Nathan. My eye starts to hurt.
Hmmm.
Eye starts to burn. I'm a contact wearer, so I'm used to odd things getting in my eye. I figure it'll pass.
It doesn't. Gets more intense. Eye...burning...
I run into the bathroom and take out the contact.
AUGH! IT HURTS MORE!
Immediately I'm bathing my affected eye with my saline solution. Whenever I stop the saline, it burns again. I wash my face frantically. Then rinse out my eye again.
FINALLY, it stops feeling like it's going to burn a hole through my face and into my skull.
I tried putting in a new contact.
My eyes gave me the finger. A BURNING FINGER.
I'm now wearing my glasses. I wonder how long I'll have to wear them for.
And how the hell, despite all my washing care, the hot pepper oil ended up in my eyes.

Latex gloves! Always wear latex gloves when handling chile peppers of any kind! Capsicums don't like being eaten, and will fight back. You have to be properly protected, or you will regret it.

Seriously, this is what younger siblings, spouses, and boyfriends are for. Better than latex gloves, because they're more versatile.

Ah Mack...this really takes me back. I had a summer job in high school, one part of which was being the go-fer at lunch time. One day we all had giant hamburgers with jalapenos on them. I got some J-juice in my eye. I ran to the bathroom, took my contact lenses out. Flushed the offended eye for several minutes until it stopped hurting.

I have suffered this myself. Just last week, while I was making Spanish rice, my hubby practically vaulted the counter and grabbed my hands before I could rub the J-juice in them.
( then there is the time my friend forgot to wash off the j-juice before changing feminine products.....)

One of our friends who visited for House, chili, and a game of Munchkin last night said it was damn good chili.
And you'll all be relieved to know that I am wearing contacts again. Albeit a FRESH pair, but contacts nontheless.

I'm not much of a chili person, my mom has never made any and i hardly ever put any on my hot dogs. Frankly, I'm not much of a fan. This was still funny though.
Speaking of hot dogs combined with chili, does anyone have a recipe for good Michigan hots? Somebody from Michigan might, right?
Cuz I just got me a craving the size of, well, Michigan, and might save up some WW points to make a Michigan hot.
