Raia is considering cutting her hair to about shoulder length.
Raia has never cut her hair off before, and is (quite frankly) scared stiff.
Raia's hair has a tendency to go poof, contrary to what's seen in these photographs. These photos were taken primarily because Raia's hair decided to behave.
Raia is also incapable of talking about this for long periods of time without breaking out into shivers, so please keep comments gentle.

After much thought, I decided, aye, but a personal recommendation, don't get it cut any shorter than your shoulder length.
In fact, give it an inch past shoulder length. I think that extra inch would come in handy when trying to work with it, style wise.

You have beautiful hair! It is gorgeous the way it is, it would be gorgeous an inch past shoulder length--and I also think it would be gorgeous in a layered, face-framing cut going "poof" all over the place! But that would probably freak you way out to even consider . . .

On the other hand, the picture you showed me as a child was so sweet. I don't know how that hair would fit you today, but I think that's as short as you should go. Or maybe just cut a few inches at a time? Think of the worst that could happen and the best that could happen, then try and avoid the worst in a way of achieving the best.

Well, it's not so much thinking about my hair as thinking about cutting it that makes me emotional. I've never done it before, and it really, honestly scares me. Stupid as that sounds.
Also, I forgot to mention that my dad will practically disown me if I cut it off. But he'd get over it, so I guess that's not fully a consideration.

Your hair is great, but it's summer now, and wouldn't it also be nice to see how it is with your hair shoulder-length? Advice: if your hair tends to puff, try to comb it only when it's all wet and the tie it back until it dries. When you brush puffy hair when it's dry, it usually gets puffier. Another thing: what's the worst scenerio? Your haircut will be terrible... But after a month you've got long hair again...so wht not give it a try?

My sister got her hair cut yesterday. She got it to about shoulder length, and it looks awesome. She and I have similar hair, though mine is curlier and a bit more unruly than hers. (Also mine is red, but that's slight irrelevant.) My dad wasn't as attached to her hair as he is to mine, and besides, she's cut it many times before.

Maya both looks really good, and says it's really comfortable, and much easier to handle. Her hair, although poofy, hardly poofs, even though she cut it, which gives me hope (despite mine being slightly worse than hers). That's how that happened. I guess that just triggered something that I had been subconsciously considering for a while. Her cutting her hair was actually my idea.

I have a friend who has hair similar to yours and she cut it pretty short - chin length - for awhile. That was very poofy. It's longer now, but she can generally keep it under control. She often pulls back a bit of hair into a small ponytail and leaves some down, which seems to control the poofiness.

Your hair is very pretty, Raia. I know what a pain long hair can be--mine is just a bit longer than yours, and I've been wanting to cut it for about a year now. (My hubby disagrees.)
My daughter also had "poofy" hair, and she's tried it at all lengths--and she always hates it. I think she'll like it more when she's older.
Anyway, IMO, go ahead and cut it. You're so young that it'll grow back quickly if you change your mind and decide you don't like it shorter.
Have you considered giving the cut-off part to Locks for Love? They have a website that gives directions.

I vote for inch-below-shoulders. I think it would look great, and it won't be so heavy. Besides, you'll never know til you try, and if you don't like it, it will grow back. Inch-below-shoulders isn't really that short, and is long enough to tie back if it does get out of control.

I don't think your hair would go poof at shoulder length although I wouldn't know- I have dead straight hair. I don't think it would be the end if you cut your hair to that length and your head will feel so light!

If you decide to go shorter go shorter progressively. I went from hair that was waist length to hair that was above my shoulders. That was way too much of a shock. I think at your shoulder blades would be a nice first step. It's still long and will quickly go back to being very long. But is a nice incremental change.

In looking at your hair's curliness, I have a question that you might ask a stylist before proceeding.
Right now, it appears that the hair near the roots is basically straight (or straighter than the rest of the hair). I'd wonder if this is just due to the weight of the hair pulling the curl out of the top part.
If so, when you cut it, you might have to deal with some seriously curly hair higher up your scalp line.
That's not a big deal but it might come as a surprise.
So, I'd ask a stylist who is familiar with your kind of hair and see what is suggested.
Anyway, just remember that even if you hate the look of it after you cut it, your hair will grow back. It's not permanent, if that helps you feel more comfortable.

I like your hair the way it is. However, if it's causing you a lot of trouble, then you might want it shorter for your convenience. I also have long, curly hair that tends to frizz (Here's what mine looks like). I've found that if I only brush it when it's wet and then let it air-dry, it stays in curly bunches rather than becoming a cloud. Also, if I put it in a tight ponytail while it's still wet, the hair around my head stays straight when it dries.

Raia, my dear, cut it if you like, but when it is shorter, it will probably look fuller and curlier. If you are not already using it, you should try Frizz Ease hair serum, to keep it well-behaved.
But, man alive, you have got some awesome hair. You are a real cutie, chicky! Would you donate your hair to me, so I can have a Raia Sheitl ? I'll be the hottest lady on my side of the mechitza. .

I say go for the gold and chop it short. Everyone needs a change. It can be very refreshing. You might look nice with pretty short hair, actually. Around the ears or a bit shorter, I think, with maybe some layers or something.
I seem to be alone in this opinion though.

Raia, I think your hair would look fantastic if you cut it. I also wouldn't worry about "poofing." It's very easy to control with hair like yours and it takes very little maintenance. My best friend has hair exactly like yours and it was down to her knees when we were in high school. She cut it shoulder length in college and it's now so gorgeous that strangers come up to her and ask her where she gets in done.
First, get rid of your brushes. Curly-haired people should never use a brush. Use a comb and then only when your hair is wet. After you wash it, simply run a comb through it and put an anti-frizz product in it (I'll ask my friend what she uses). Let it air dry and you're done. This will give you gorgeous ringlets.
If you do decide to cut it, make sure that the stylist is experienced cutting curly hair. As always, I recommned Aveda salons.
I have to say, however, you don't sound ready. Make sure that this is something you're sure you want to do.

If you only cut some off, you can always decide to cut it shorter later. If you cut too much off, you can let it grow back out. If you're uncertain, remember that one of these takes longer than the other.

You look especially fantastic here and here. You have a beautiful face and a very elegant neckline. It would be a shame to hide your face and neck under so much hair.
If having shorter hair means you will put your hair up more often (I'm assuming it is easier to put your hair up with shorter hair), then by all means, cut the hair!
