I think that a game based on the ender series, or even just on enders game would be absolutely great. You could command toons in battle school, walk around and talk to other students, play games, excersise and keep up stats like an rpg. The stilson and bonzo fights would be like boss battles and the simulator is like a mini game until you get command school, and then you play it exactly like ender did. I think it would be really fun to play the psychology game, and even have it evaluate you after each session. What do you guys think?

OSC discussed this during his signing in SLC. He said effectively that he isn't pleased that they appear to be waiting for the movie to release Ender's Game based Games. He mentioned that there could be 6 different games all derived from Ender's Game.

Hopefully they won't continue to wait.

The Sooner the better....im hoping this run of consoles, maybe a Revolution launch title? Whatever that damn controller is, i bet it is perfect for null gravity fighting. As for voice acting, i should be ender, and all the teachers should be voiced by real politicians.

At one point I considered the idea of recreating some of the battle room action into a Quake or Half-Life modification but I never got past making a few levels with zero gravity.

Hmmm the concept would be very interesting to try out with the Source engine seeing as we now have multiplayer physics...

*ponders next modding project*

A nice dream but I guess it would be doubtful. I'm sure OSC is very careful with who can or cannot use his universe/ideas so perhaps a free modification is out of the question and it would be best for the fans to wait for a retail game.

I think that an Ender game would get old pretty fast. But an Alvin Maker MMORPG, the one everyones had the idea for. That would be cool. Everyone would have a cool knack, and you'd just go around.... doin' stuff....

The specifics have yet to be worked out...

I'm sorry, but an Alvin Maker MMORPG would bomb. Horribly. I mean.. it's not even funny how boring that is, and I can't even make an explanation of why that is boring that even sounds remotely interesting.

I would imagine that the "simulation" Ender played to beat the buggers at the end of the book would be similar to Homeworld, an RTS like Empire Earth except for the fact that it takes place in space.

There most likely will be an Ender's Game Game after the movie is released, and it will probably suck like just about every other game based on a movie.

I just hope to all goodness that the Ender's Game/Shadow movie will be great.

Well, I dunno. A MMORPG set in the alternate America of the books, with the various magic systems and political turmoil properly displayed -- and with a decent crafting system set up -- could be quite enjoyable. It just couldn't follow the plot of the Alvin novels, which is fine by me.

this is only the gagillionith(hyberbole!) time this subject has been brougt up. In my opinion, i think making an Ender's Game the game would be stupid, kind of like the matrix video game(from the movie(terrible terrible game just for those who don't know)). Just making Ender's game into a movie is far enough for me, making a game is just milking it, it get boring, and the game would be to restricted to game play.

Yes, it could be, if it were properly displayed, and didn't follow the plot of the Alvin novels. The problem, though, is how to display it where people would play it and enjoy it. Really, though, what knacks would there be that would be interesting enough to play? What about that interests you? Perhaps I'm just so used to the idea of working towards destroying an enemy in video games, that the idea of being a cooper, or a mill worker bores me. Essentially, it would be hard to present interesting goals for certain paths.

"Wait a minute... my job is making barrels and if I make 300 of them, I'll get a skill that allows me to make them even more tight!? Wow! Neato!"

*nod* Very true. Which is why such a game would either have to be more combat-heavy than the setting implies, or -- and based on the publisher, this is what I suspect -- really play up the importance of social interaction.

2) Be so off of the actual story and books that the similarities would be few and far in between.

Why do you think a MMORPG that focuses on social interaction would bomb?

I'll admit that I come close to sharing that opinion, myself, although certainly high-level play on most MMORPGs is all about the virtual society nowadays.

I suppose first I should say I found The Sims to be incredibly boring, and it seems to be doing fine.

The majority of the people I talk to that play mmorpgs, say that they do play for the social interaction. So I'll admit that social interaction does play a part of it.

But if you have the game purely based on that, it's going to fail, because there is no room for growth of character, and what you are left with is just forum with a controllable avatar that costs you a monthly charge.

Which is what is interesting about MMORPG's, is that your character grows, and gains levels and new abilities. Character is the number one thing for mmorpgs, followed by the goals.

Don't get me wrong, though, I know there are people out there who would like a game where you get to be a smith or a mill worker. I know this because there is a forum on this site that has people interacting there as if they were in the books.

I suppose it comes down to this:

Having a barrel maker or a smithy, or a lucky guy next to having a bounty hunter, or a hero/villian, or some guy who can do kung fu, it's not really hard to see which one is more interesting. And if both of them present the social interaction that the other has, the majority of people are going to go the interesting route.

But then again, this is just my views on MMORPGS. I'm not a terribly tremendous fan. Gimme a FPS any day.

The key to an alvin miller mmorpg would be conflict, and there is plenty of it outside of alvin's story. The reds, french, new englanders, king arthurs folk, slavery etc... You could pick a "side" in the beggining and either unite or divide the country. There could be huge events that happen for different people at different times, like the slave exodus or the sudden lack of reds when they cross the mizzipy, kind of like the guild wars charring for those familiar.

Why not do what Star Wars did with Knights of the Old Republic (a game I love). They kept the universe, but removed it from the timeline of the movies so that everything was fresh. Why not an Ender's Game game that takes place during the first Bugger invasion?
