Twice a year, I have to change the time adjustment on this and some other forums I frequent. I know, I know, it's not THAT big a deal, but still, it gives me something to whine about.
See, this forum has a time adjustment that I can make, + or - however many hours I choose. But then the USA and Canada have that Daylight Savings thing happening, so clocks in those locations change. And the forum clocks change with it.
Now, other forums I visit, instead of having a hour adjustment to enter have the capability of entering which time zone I'm in. I simply enter +6 GMT, and my time is always correct. Even after daylight savings changes. Those forums know how to deal with parts of the world with daylight savings and parts of the world without at the same time.
Sigh.
Why can't all forums be that way? *whine*
(I know, I know, it's minor. Trivial. Small, even. I get it. )

I'm sick of a lot of aspects of being one of the only states that doesn't have daylight savings. But that's all going to change! I still don't know if we're going with central or eastern, I vote central, but at least the TV shows won't keep changing times on me depending on what part of the year it is.

Oh I love not changing, and am totallly sick of our governor. Thecca, it isn't looking like we'll all be on one time, most likely it'll be pretty random.

Because Congress passed legislation recently changing the dates we flip the clocks. Lemme see if I can come up with a link...
eta: Wiki entry on the Energy Policy Act of 2005 Among other actions, it increases the length of Daylight Savings time by 4 weeks, provides tax credits to owners of hybrid vehicles, and seems to address some of the fuel shortage issues. I ahven't read it in depth yet, I'm going based on the highlights that are bulleted near the beginning of the article.

So long as all the countries go through daylight savings the same time I don't care when it is. When I went to Italy two years ago the date to change the clocks was different by a week. Very confusing.

I don't like the sunlight. I vote for daylight losing time (DLT). If we shift it enough, we can just be getting up at sunset, drive to work without all that annoying sun glare, and save a bundle on sunscreen.

I like this DST change, where we get an extra hour. If nothing else, it helps me get onto a slightly more healthy schedule, as I'm more inclined to go to bed at a reasonable hour, since my body is used to it being 11:30, not 10:30. I really have problems adjusting to getting off DST, though. It throws my sleep cycle off instead of fixing it.

<---pissed off that Indiana is starting daylight savings time.
For that matter, pissed off that daylight savings time exists. Why one earth would someone want to change the time twice every year?!?
It's like someone woke up and said, "OH, I'm a genius, I have a brilliant idea to make the world even more complicated!"

There was an article about the purpose of daylight-saving time on MSN the other day that was kinda interesting...let me see if I can find it....
It saves energy. When we're awake, we're more likely to have our TVs, VCRs, and lights on (among other home appliances). By shifting the hours we're likely to be awake to correspond with the daylight outside, we're less likely to have the lights on, so we use less electricity.
It saves lives. When people's waking hours correspond with daylight hours, they're safer. Traffic accidents, for example, are less likely when it's light out.
It cuts down on crime. Crime tends to happen after dark. As is the case with accidents, people are less likely to fall victim to crime when their waking hours are synched up with the sun.
I don't know if I agree that the time change actually accomplishes these things, but I rather like the idea of doing it to save energy. And preventing car crashes and crime is good too, of course.
EDIT: Weird linky all fixed now.

Aha! Thanks, kq. Strange, I've used Amazon links that were longer with no problems. Oh well, whatever works.

I think it might have been the underscores? Sometimes the forum doesn't like underscores and such.

And do they have any statistics to back up those claims? I highly doubt it. In fact, I was reading on Wikipedia that one of the reasons Arizona doesn't have DST is that the energy used by air conditioning more than cancels out any benefit of turning off a few lights.
I'm especially skeptical of the "fewer traffic accidents" claim, especially since there's reportedly a spike in accidents after the switch in the spring.

Why does it sadden me? Because some of us like having sunlight in the morning when we wake up.
Oh I meant why was it changing. I'm definately a morning person and I like having sun then as well. But it also bothers me when the sun goes down really really early, as it's starting to do now.
