Yay! "... sine Bello" ("...without a conflict" or "...without a war"), my first poetry book, will be published next year! It's oficial now! Ok...it will be a veeery small thing and I'll probably never see any money but...it's cool anyway!
Plant a tree... check! Write a book... check! Bear a child... hmmm...not yet. :-)
Back to my evil, lurking ways, Hatrack! Bye!
Here is the two first poems). They're in portuguese, unfortunatelly. I have a hard time translating poetry, even if they're my own.
"...sine Bello"
o processo começou... da delapidação pública dos santos e não santos.
Cada gira, cada pedra carinhosamente preparada ao suor e sangue do pai.
Ponto e gota-a-gota O vinho Se faz Presente Em nós.
Amém.
(Eduardo José)
Valsa da Espera
Tintile o timbre do tom. Toquemos tocantes sons. Marulho cintilante Da trova, do fim.
O tempo ruge, Vagalhão, intempérie. O tempo urge, A cada compasso.
Tambor rouco Bate cavo No peito Da espera.
Dia, Gota da criação. Sempre, Pó do instante.
Um violino! Por força! Um violino! Eu tenho um metrônomo Em mim!

Hey, David! thanks for the translation! I't better than anything I could've done! About the "superior sister tongue", though... hehehe. I know you're just kidding.

That's so cool Eduardo! Mega congrats to you!
Thanks for the translations, David - I enjoyed them, though I'm sure I would have liked them better if I could read them in their original form. I will say this - they look beautiful on the page in Portuguese!

It seems the book will sell at least 20 copies. Mom said she'd buy that much so she could give them to friends and relatives. Moms... hehehe.
Now, seriously...I feel like a child today: all goofy and excited. Glad to share my happiness with you all, guys!

That's a great feeling, isn't it? Savor it.

BTW, it was a pleasure translating the poems, though English can never quite capture the nuances and flavor of Romantic languages... you've done an outstanding job with those two pieces.

I was thinking about using my Darth Vader outfit ;-)
Your translation was really, really good, David. It's hard to capture nuances of languages when translating. It's even more difficult when their linguistic roots are so different. That's why I never could find a translation of Poe's "The Raven" in portuguese, that I liked, although two geniuses of Portugese language already tried to translate that piece: Machado de Assis and Fernando Pessoa.
But your translation of my poems was much better than the one I tried to make for my friend Tatiana (hi Tatiana!) once. Thanks a lot!
