Yay! "... sine Bello" ("...without a conflict" or "...without a war"), my first poetry book, will be published next year! It's oficial now! Ok...it will be a veeery small thing and I'll probably never see any money but...it's cool anyway!

Plant a tree... check!
Write a book... check!
Bear a child... hmmm...not yet. :-)

Back to my evil, lurking ways, Hatrack! Bye!

Here is the two first poems). They're in portuguese, unfortunatelly. I have a hard time translating poetry, even if they're my own.

"...sine Bello"

o processo começou...
da delapidação
pública
dos santos
e não santos.

Cada gira, cada pedra
carinhosamente preparada
ao suor e sangue do pai.

Ponto e gota-a-gota
O vinho
Se faz
Presente
Em nós.

Amém.

(Eduardo José)

Valsa da Espera

Tintile o timbre do tom.
Toquemos tocantes sons.
Marulho cintilante
Da trova, do fim.

O tempo ruge,
Vagalhão, intempérie.
O tempo urge,
A cada compasso.

Tambor rouco
Bate cavo
No peito
Da espera.

Dia,
Gota da criação.
Sempre,
Pó do instante.

Um violino!
Por força! Um violino!
Eu tenho um metrônomo
Em mim!

Toco
A valsa
Sem tropeçar
No tempo.

(Eduardo José)

That's great! I wish I could read Portuguese so I could understand what you've written.

[Smile]

But congratulations all the same.

They're beautiful!

Okay, I don't understand them either, but they look poetic and beautiful.

Congratulations! [Smile]

A weak attempt at translation...

"...sine Bello"

the process has begun...
of the public
delapidation
of saints
and non-saints.

Every twirl, every rock
lovingly prepared
by the sweat and blood of the father.

Point and drop-by-drop
The wine
Becomes
Present
In us.

Amen.

Here's my translation of the second poem (remember: I don't know Portuguese, but I teacher its superior sister-tongue, Spanish [Wink] )

Waiting Waltz

“Tintile”— the timbre of the tone.
Let’s play moving tunes.
Scintillating undulation
Of the ballad, of the end.

Time roars,
Tsunami, intemperate clime.
The tempo insists,
With every beat.

The hoarse drum
Beats; I burrow
In the bosom
Of the waiting.

Day—
Drop of creation.
Forever—
Dust of the moment.

A violin!
Perforce a violin!
I have a metronome
Within me.

I play
A waltz
Without tripping up
The timing, the tempo

(Eduardo José)

Hey, David! thanks for the translation! I't better than anything I could've done! About the "superior sister tongue", though... hehehe. I know you're just kidding.

That's so cool Eduardo! Mega congrats to you!

Thanks for the translations, David - I enjoyed them, though I'm sure I would have liked them better if I could read them in their original form. [Smile] I will say this - they look beautiful on the page in Portuguese!

It seems the book will sell at least 20 copies. Mom said she'd buy that much so she could give them to friends and relatives. Moms... hehehe.

Now, seriously...I feel like a child today: all goofy and excited. Glad to share my happiness with you all, guys!

...wow.

This is every writer's dream, guy. Congratulations doesn't begin to describe the raging envy and petty jealousy I have for you.

But, heh, congratulations anyway. You must be amazing.

Wear a toga!

BTW, it was a pleasure translating the poems, though English can never quite capture the nuances and flavor of Romantic languages... you've done an outstanding job with those two pieces.

I was thinking about using my Darth Vader outfit ;-)

Your translation was really, really good, David. It's hard to capture nuances of languages when translating. It's even more difficult when their linguistic roots are so different. That's why I never could find a translation of Poe's "The Raven" in portuguese, that I liked, although two geniuses of Portugese language already tried to translate that piece: Machado de Assis and Fernando Pessoa.

But your translation of my poems was much better than the one I tried to make for my friend Tatiana (hi Tatiana!) once. Thanks a lot!
