Lately, whenever I sneeze I end up getting a pelvic floor cramp.

Very painful.

Is there anyway to prevent this from happening, or at least soothe the pain?

What causes it, anyway?

You do not need to answer this, but the first thing that comes to mind is whether you've been doing anything to strain that area. It seems like maybe a muscle got injured and now it gets aggravated again every time you sneeze, so it isn't healing. I would suggest taking ibuprofen pretty regularly for a few days and see if that helps. It should bring down any muscle inflammation and allow whatever is cramping to get back to a more normal state so sneezing doesn't hurt it.

If it keeps up, consult a physician. They might suggest muscle relaxants or some kind of anti-inflammatory injection.

Yeah, sounds like a pulled muscle that's sensitive to pressure etc. If it feels more internal and less like a muscle cramp....? Hm. I haven't the slightest.

The urogenital system is especially sensitive in women who might also experience a little bladder incontinence with sneezing. Many times, an antispasmodic medication like Ditropan is given. Now, there are several medications like Ditropan that are extended-release and that are also very pricey. But they can be taken safely every day to help improve bladder tone and prevent incontinence. As for helping cramping during sneezing, this should also subside...

Since I'm male, I wonder how much of that applies to both genders? [Embarrassed]

I was just going to jestingly ask if you'd given birth recently. [Wink]

Actually, PelvicFloorMuscles can be weakened in both men and women.
It's just known more commonly as a problem following pregnancy.
Yep, it's time for Kegel excercizes. But you'll want to go see a physician first.
There is a chance that the pain is a symptom of prostatitus, bladder hernia, or rectal prolapse
quote:
Untreated rectal prolapse can lead to incarceration and strangulation (rare).
More commonly, increasing difficulties with rectal bleeding (usually minor), ulceration, and incontinence occur.

Sheesh, why make it so complicated? The obvious solution is not to sneeze. I mean, duh.

I have nothing to add but sympathy - sneezing is still extremely uncomfortable for me with my incision so I also dread sneezing.
