I realize the subject matter may not be to the inclination of all of those here at hatrack since it has been labelled as the "gay cowboy movie".

However after reading the review below it sounds fascinating. I don't know if I will see it in the theaters, given Narnia is coming out too, however I definitely want to rent it later.

I haven't even heard of it.

Considering I watch less than 1% of movies that come out, prospects aren't good.

I saw a preview for it the other day, and wasn't terribly impressed by what I saw. I may see it when it comes out on DVD, but I'll probably skip it.

lol, while when I realized the actors involved, I'd watch it just for the eye candy even if they are portraying gay men.

I would go see it if I had time.

But since, like porter, I don't go to a lot of movies I doubt I'll catch it.

I will watch it at some point, either on DVD or HBO.

This flick will probably be a big hit with the stock car /rodeo crowd.

Here is one country boy who won't see it.

On "South Park", Cartman said about independent films, "They're all about gay cowboys eating pudding."

I want to see it, but I'll probably have to wait until I get back to Florida and see it alone. Most of my friends around here are male and refuse to have anything to do with the "gay cowboy movie."

However, a few have expressed interest in the "Japanese hooker movie." [Roll Eyes]

I would so go see this RIGHT NOW if I could. [Big Grin]

Narnia with the fam this afternoon comes first, and I'd have to slip Ron a mickey to get him to go with me (though when he saw the poster he said, "You're gonna drag me to see that, aren't you?").

I think it will be a good movie, but I admit the reason for my interest is mostly that part of my brain that goes "Guuuh, wha?" when I see pretty boys kissing.

That was too honest, wasn't it? *skulks back to sakeriver*

I'm not a huge fan of either of the men.

Although Jake is pretty when he's looking sullen and dark.

Well, I get the feeling that Mr. Gyllenhaal will be looking quite tortured and troubled through much of this movie.

Actually, lots of men look better when they're experiencing emotional turmoil.

Or maybe I'm just sadistic. [Dont Know]

Heh. I've had this conversation with other women before. I don't think it's sadism, exactly, but I think some of us are turned on by expressiveness, which is in direct contrast to the stoic, manly-man stereotype. Men in TV shows and movies are more often expressive when their characters are in distress.

That's my theory, anyway. [Wink] I used it to explain why Ben Browder was cutest when strapped into the Aurora chair on Farscape. [Blushing]

Heterosexual guy checking in here. I'm definitely going to see it. I'm a big fan of director Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), and from what I've heard, the story is one of the great tragic romances of our time, straight or gay.

Plus, Anne Hathaway's hot. [Wink]

Oh, as for women liking the gay male stuff... in Japan is a huge industry. Most of the gay anime and manga is written by women for women. [Smile] Which is different from the gay porn anime made for men. Not that gay men can't enjoy the stuff that is targeted for a female audience. I happen to love the plot and emotions.

I just think it's funny when that extends into their own creations. If you've ever read slashy fanfic, it's hilarious how obvious that a lot of it's written by giggly teenage girls.

I'll see it. The movie seems very... appealing to me and it's not just because of the two gay guys. [Wink] I have a feeling that I won't like the movie since it seems to encourage leaving one's spouse for somebody else, but I still very much want to see it.

I'm not going to see it, as far as I can tell it's just a bid for an Oscar. I tend to hate all of the "meaningful" "politically correct" "art" movies that come out this time of year. I don't really like movies that have a message.

Since I also don't find gay guys particularly sexy, I think I'll save my money for Chronicles of Narnia and Memoirs of a Geisha.

Many people are putting Memoirs in the same category as far as political correctness goes, though I can't remember if that is because it's too PC or not PC enough.

It actually discourages people from being themselves and sends the message that gays suffer and then die because they are gay.

Heath Ledger on a horse. I'm there.

Livvy, I still like Ben Browder better when he knows about the chip. He develops crazy eyes. THat's why I like Lost so much this season, too, cause Jack is developing that look, like he might explode at any minute.

[Razz] I don't like slash fanfic either. It's just, in a romantic comedy about two guys, I can't exactly imagine myself as one of the characters, which makes it lose the appeal.

Lyrhawn- I don't know much at all about Memoirs, except that in the trailers I've seen it looks stunning visually. Also, I find prostitutes more interesting than cowboys, just a personal thing.

I can definitely imagine being attracted to a guy, and it isn't that hard for me to identify with a character that is attracted to guys. But I am still puzzled by the herd of young teen girls writing stories about Legolas and Aragorn macking, back in the height of the LotR craze.

*shrug*

Yeah, Telp. I've stumbled across some decent yaoi occassionally. Most mainstream anime have a character designed to be a sort of male "stand in" for a girl. Yu Yu Hakusho had Kurama, Gundam Wing had Quatre. I think they are deliberate come-ons to the boylove doujinshi magazines. It's baffling to me that some artists even give male characters breasts. There's a real blurring of gender lines in the creative imagination, perhaps because the male and female social roles are more rigidly defined in Japan. It's interesting.

Ophelia - I'm there, chica.

kwsni - yes, yes! We've talked about this before, haven't we? It's one reason I enjoyed your writing... so much distress! [Wink]
