For two years anyway.

In two days, I leave to go on my mission to Las Vegas.

Wow, Vegas.

That must be the grail of mission trips.

Oddly enough, there's a Mormon temple in Las Vegas. The whole area is crawling with Mormons, apparently.

Not from what I've seen. But then, we probably don't have a lot of common interests in Vegas.

That's cool though. Gambling aside, Vegas is a great town.

Play "10" on the roulette for me, since I was born on the 10th.

See you after you've returned!

Yeah, I've been to the temple there. It's really cool, architecture and interior decorating-wise.

Good luck, Zarex, and do great things!

My brother went to Las Vegas West, and said it was great. Be sure to be good, though. Gambling is against the rules [No No] . [Smile]

That was my next question; what's the LDS stand on gambling? [Big Grin]

Good luck, Zarex!

No gambling for mormons.

Actually for a while I was involved in a campus gambling ring. Though on a mormon campus that meant: A bunch of guys who played Texas Hold 'em and bet skittles. We got into a lot of trouble for that one.

Which is really a shame about the no gambling thing, I could've financed my mission through blackjack. [Big Grin]

Interesting fact about the mission: The strip is off limits to all missionaries. You need special permission from the mission president to go on, or even cross, the strip. Doing so without permission of the president gets you sent home.

No loss. I've been to Vegas several times, and without drinking, gambling, cheesecake shows, or a love of Celine Dion, it gets boring very quickly.

I don't think that works with missionaries.

But you'd better take your vacations to vegas soon. After I'm done with it, sin city will be known as Celestial Cityl. Gwahahahahaha

(I was going to use the evil laugh graemlin, but I didn't think that a picture of the devil was appropriate in the context I was using. Go figure.)

Actually, I used to know someone who claimed to have financed his entire mission off his winnings from two weeks worth of betting on the horse races at the county fair. I had no reason to disbelieve him, as his brother backed up his assertion. [Big Grin] But he probably didn't tell his bishop.

Just remember...it gets really hot in Vegas in the summer.

I love cheesecake. I can only imagine that I'd fall over and die if I went to a place where they were showing professionally decorated and made cheesecakes for the delight of the audience.

Die. Dead. But ooooh, how sweet a death it would be.

Tante: Missionaries don't even get to watch TV or listen to popular music. They certainly don't get to go to movies. There's no way they'd get to catch a show in Vegas. [Smile]

Las Vegas was settled as a "Mormon Town". It always has been. Even now, if you get past the glitz on the Strip, it is a "Mormon Town". It's so dry, hot and ugly, who else would ever want it. Hopefully you will be able to see the real Nevada too. If you ever get work in Hawthorne, introduce yourself, and I will invite you over for Dinner.

And as far as the rest of you, I hate Vegas. It's a gash of a city. Drove through it and was glad I didn't stop.

According to the History Channel, Vegas was pretty much founded by Mormons.

Good luck on your mission!

Well then, welcome to Vegas... soon. I like living here but yes, it is insanely hot in the summer... and part of the sping... and some of the fall... and occasionally in winter, too. Be extra super careful if you are on a bike, the people around here drive crazy! I swear sometimes they are trying to kill me!!! *hides from the crazy drivers and the missionaries*
