Ive just spent the last two months of my life doing nothing but conquering the world with the Greeks and Romans in Rome: Total War( ) for the PC...it’s very very engrossing and fun. So anyways, I was wondering if anyone else plays it and if anyone knows of other strategy games that are good…

I have wasted many hours of my youth playing a little known game called Star Wars: Rebellion. Much preferable to the Age of Empire's rip off: Galactic Battlegrounds.
Mechcommander is pretty good too, though probably not on par with the type of strategy games you're used to.

I never really got into TA, the game just didn't appeal to me. Which is sad, because there is no doubt whatsoever that it has the greatest interface known to RTS games.
Anyway, no strategy talk can be complete without doffing one's hat to Myth II. When someone beat you in that it was as close to the feeling of "their brain beat my brain" you get from chess without actually playing chess. Not necessarily deservedly so, it just felt like it.

Any and all total war games are excellent choices. Best buy right now is the bundle with medieval + viking invasion. Very excellent strategy game, and fairly cheap now thtat Rome: Total War is out.

I'd actually like to recommend a game that no one has ever played: King of Dragon Pass. If you can find a copy, it's a fascinating way to spend an evening.

Starcraft, Hearts of Iron 2, EUII is probly good I never played it I cant afford it, Rise of Nations Thrones and patriots, Command and COnquer Generals + Zero Hour. Axis and allies if you dont want the whole building masses of villages aspect to the game and a wwii aspect as well. Homeworld 2, Civilization II and III. All good strat games.

I strongly recommend Brothers In Arms for strategy.
It's not a real time strategy game, it's more of a first person shooter strategy. You are in first person shooter mode, but you can right click and tell your troops (say, like, 4 of them) to go to a location or to attack a location. So it's not so much "build such and such a building and get this" more "command troops in strategic battle."

I highly recommend The Foundation . It is a browser based strategy mmorpg game based on Asimov's books.
Even tho it only takes about 15 minutes at a time (1-3 times per day), it gets really intense.
I have been promoted once and am in the thick of the game. Although I have built a small army with limited funds, I have trained a capable assassin and have very strong alliances.
I am now being forced to choose going against someone who is represents the Foundation or a very powerful Independent Lord.
The Lord is stronger in this scenario, and I could win more planets if I have his support. However, I am also an independent Lord and have the same goals as him. If we are allies, there will be less good planets that a Lord would want--or worse, he could attack me. I want the Lord to be week so my relative strength is strong.
He claims the Foundation Representative is corrupt and plans to back stab me. I am allied with both of them, and they are both at war. Whoever I break my allegiance with will have a very hard time meeting their goals. The Foundation Representative has not communicated with me for a while.
Oh, what to do?!!!

Well, I didn't want to start a whole new thread for it, but Star Wars: Empire at War just came out and I bought it almost immediately. I've been ANXIOUSLY awaiting it's arrival for sometime now.
Single player is boring as all hell. There's something like 10 different ship types, and that's between both sides. Combat is fun, for awhile, but it gets old fast. The AI sucks, you have to fight every battle personally or risk losing all your forces, or worse, the battle itself. It's just really not what I expected at all. I was hoping for a lot more variety. At least the graphics are sweet, but sugar coating only lasts so long.
But I'm going to give it another try. I've yet to play it on multiplayer, which is supposed to be revolutionary and fantastic, so I will give that a try. And I did give campaign mode a shot, and it's pretty cool. For the moment however I am being diverted by Battle for Middle Earth, which has led me to believe that BFME 2 could be the sweetest game ever.
Still, compared to Empire at War, I really, really miss Star Wars Rebellion. Couldn't they have just created a souped up 21st century version of that instead?

It's a bit of an oldie now, but as far as strategy games are concerned, high up on my list would be Conquest: Frontier Wars. The plot is similar to Starcraft (humans, energy hyper-tech beings, and a swarming insectoid race), but it's got more depth, and it adds a lot more depth and strategic-style thinking than a game like Starcraft, which usually dissolves into a game of intensive resource-management and acquisition.

I sunk a decent while into Massive Assault on my Mac last fall, and an even longer period into Romance of the Three Kingdoms X for PS2. Presently I'm fiddling with Battalion Wars for GC, and there's a copy of Homeworld 2 on my desk that I bought at about the same time as Massive Assault and will be playing just as soon as I have time.

Sid, I do not use that email to respond to PMs because it uses my full name. If I wanted people to know that, I'd use it for a login. However, I don't bear a grudge; if you want to play MP, why not post in the CK MP forum? There are two games there that have open positions, and that I play in. I think you said you recently bought CK?

Meh, I say meh. I played MOOIII and while I liked the Macro vs Micro management there were too little things that annoyed me. Like I couldn't fit "United Federation of Planets" as my empire name.

You get to design you own ships, and with better and better technology as you research. Combat (for strategic combat) is turned based and awesome (well, not the best graphically) and how you build your ships makes a big difference.
You control the populace of your world(s) and can make them either farmers, workers, or scientists. You get leaders who give your population bonuses, and officers who give your ships bonus.
There are spies (a simplistic but decent system) that can steal technology, blow things up or defend your empire.
You get to design your own race with different advantages and disadvantages (always take the "creative" advantage).
The AI on the aliens is decent, and you can set up the game with different number of players (even your friends on your network) different sizes of space, different starting technology, different difficulty setting, etc, etc.
The coolest part about this game is that you can right click on almost anything and it will tell you what it is.

Really, this is the one weakness of MOO2 : The creative trait is so incredibly powerful that it is broken. There is just no winning strategy that doesn't include being creative. For MP play, there should really be a house rule that you can't take creative.

Are you into turn-based strategy games as well?
If so, then I highly suggest you pick up Fire Emblem for the GBA (which is actually a more of a turn-based RPG) and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance for the GameCube. Those are two of my favorite games of all time--great stories, addicting gameplay, amazing character development, etc.
Also, the same company (Intelligent Systems) also makes another great series of turn based strategy games, which are not RPG based (the Advance Wars series). There are two of them for the GBA and one for the DS. Awesome games as well.
