Apparantly,his assistant coach ran a gambling ring with ties to the organized crime. Gretzky's wife placed a $75,000 bet on the Superbowl through this gambling operation.
Here's where it gets interesting. Gretzky originally denied having any knowledge of this illegal enterprise. Now the local news is reporting that a wire tap caught Wayne talking about the operation.
No charges have been filed against Wayne Gretzky, yet. I don't think the assistant coach has been indicted yet.
I haven't done an online search for the story. The information I have is from the local news.

That's pretty bad news for the NHL. They aren't exactly doing good as it is, and for one of the most well known names in hockey to be implicated in something like this isn't exactly going to help.
