Why is it such a big deal? Is it so odd that someone would save the life of someone who is a political opponent? As if winning an election was more important than saving someone's life.
It would only be a big deal if it was strange for someone to save someone else's life - that's pretty sad because it implies that he should not have saved the man's life just because they are political opponents.

Its ironic because of all the people in the restaurant to save him, he was the one to do it. He could easily have just done what everyone else in the restaurant did: claim to not have realized what was going on, or no knowledge of what to do.

In a state capital? Pretty good, actually. Every legislative center tends to have four or five "regular" restaurants which, if you bombed them on any random night, would take out a decent percentage of that region's politicians.

I'm really surprised more people don't try that. I mean, I know, crazy security, but wouldn't it be worth the money and the brains required to get around the crazy security?

Do you have a particular point to make, or did you figure you'd toss in a jab at Dean, just for the heck of it?
Though I will admit to making jokes when Bush choked on that pretzel a few years ago (after all, we all know that what really happened was that Cheney beat him up for saying something stupid, again. And Bush was supposed to say that he "walked into a door.")

Crazy security doesn't even begin to explain the heightened level of the situation. During the State of the Union address, you'd be hard pressed to get within a block of the Capitol, much less get close enough to detonate a bomb that would reach the rotunda...

I agree with THT, a land-based bomb couldn't make it to the Capitol.
