Okay it has come to my attention that absolute evil has been unleashed into Hatrack and I must clear something up right now ebfore the virus spreads.

Blayne, being my real name does not equal under any circumstances "Blaine" notice the difference of spelling. "Blaine" is spelt with an "i" which as we all know is a perversion to how my name, the real Blayne is spelt.

Announcement is over go about your lives fellow citizens of a virtual setting.

And Not-Me welcome to Hatrack [Wave]

Sheesh. This from someone who routinely has five spelling errors per sentence, when he even bothers using full stops? You have absolutely no room for complaint.

You've got to admit, though, Blayne spelled with the "y" is cooler than Blaine spelled with the "i".

And Blayne's misspellings are all part of his quirky charm.

That said, I'd hate to see it become all the rage here, as everyone strives to become a Blayne-wannabe.

The prince in Zelazny's "Princes of Amber" spelled his name "Blaine". Therefore the 'i' is the correct spelling. [Smile]

I'll sympathize with you. People always replace the "a" in my name with an "e". Its odd how they can't get it right, when the correct spelling is right in front of their faces, isn't it?

By the time you are out of school, you will be so used to the mis-spellings that it will just go over your head. I only worry about correcting people I like.

Just keep going. It took a lot of fussing, but people generally spell katharina right.

People try to stick extra Es and sometimes even an H into my name. But it's Megan. A million Ns, get it? Mega N.

I know how you feel.
People who see my name pronounce it wrong.
People who hear my name spell it wrong.

But it's really just pronounced the way it looks, people! Follows all the standard American English rules and everything. Why is this so hard?

When I got married, the officiator said "Gina", even though I had already told him three times before the wedding that it was "Jenna". I was too shy to correct him in the middle of the vows. [Blushing]

It's ok, I can't count the number of times people have spelled my screen name "ersomniac" or "erosomaniac" or "ersomaniac" or otherwise.

I changed my last name from Aaronson to Liel when I moved back to Israel in 1997. I'd had Aaronson misspelled all the time in the US (one high school guidance counselor even tried Erinsohn, which I gather would be half Irish, half German), but they would argue with me about it in Israel.

See, Moses's brother's name was Aharon in Hebrew. That's why there are two A's in the name. But I spell it in Hebrew just the way it sounds (within the bounds of available vowels in Hebrew): AH-rone-sone. Israelis would spell it AH-HA-rone-sone, and argue with me that they were right and I was wrong. I tried to explain to them that my English name wasn't A-ha-ronson, and that a translation would be Ben Aharon anyway, but they didn't care.

So I just changed it. It made my life much simpler back in Israel. And now that I'm in Chicago, almost no one can handle it. <sigh> I get people pronouncing it as Lyle, or Leel. I've tried telling them to pronounce it like it's Kryptonian: Li-El, but that just gets weird looks and "too geeky" eye rolling.

And here on Hatrack, I cannot get people to stop calling me StarLisa. Or Star, which is really silly.

Incorrect. I wonder why people say stuff like that? Which prince were you talking about? Bleys?

Lisa. The problem is, it's such a common name, that it's always gone when I sign up for things. And I feel weird using my full name. So I started using "starLisa", because my domain name is starways.net. And then it took on a life of its own. <grin>

My last name is always mispelt or mispronounced. One time, we were called the Plumbers. [Mad] Or instead of an 'r' sound at the end, they'd say 'er' Or the 'u' would be pronunced wrong. My name isn't that hard!
