Anyone here ever play this game? I just got it for my PS2. It's a fantasy/sci-fi RPG that came out in 2004 I think.

I've just started it, but I must say it is becoming quite addicting, largely because of the combat system. The graphics are pretty good and the model animation is very good. If you can get past the often campy voice-acting and the similarities to Star Trek (which I don't mind, actually. They actually have their own version of the prime directive, called the Underdeveloped Planet Pact). The story is decent, though fairly typical. Of course, I'm not far enough into it to say much on this.

But the real-time combat system is probably the best I've played on any RPG yet (though I also plan on getting FFXII to check out its battle system).

So, I never hear anyone talking about this game. Has anyone played this before? No plot spoilers please.

I have it, it came with the PS2 my friend sold me among a dozen other games. Haven't even tried it yet. Maybe I shall give it a shot.

I wasn't particularly enthralled by it, but this is largely because I played Tales of Symphonia (Gamecube) before this Star Ocean. The battle systems are very similar, but Symphonia's is much, much better implemented.

Ultimately, the story wasn't compelling enough for me to finish the game.

I loved the Star Ocean game for the PS1. This one was good too, but not quite as good, imo. However, the story did have a laugh-out-loud surprise about two-thirds into it.

I played the one for ps1 with the two discs. IT was pretty cool I thought. The animations in it were actually pretty funny, but the story was quite engaging.
