My computer went crazy about two and a half months ago, so I took it into this computer shop called Vitality Computers. After three weeks it was fixed or so I was told. The Media Center was working again, the Internet was working too and they had installed the drivers that it wouldn't install, so I thought it was fixed.

I was wrong, I myself could not install drivers and a few other minor things didn't work, but I was willing to let that go for the time because I wanted my computer back. Then the Internet went out for no reason what-so-ever, my friend Steven and I are both rather tech savvy, and after working with the best of our ability Steven tells me that he thinks it might be the motherboard. So I decided to take it back to Vitality since they had worked on it before, I wanted them to tell me if the motherboard was the problem or not and if not will they fix it because they didn't fix it completely the first time. I was told yes and it wouldn't cost anything, they had me write down any files I wanted backed up (I forgot to do this before I left home because I thought all they would do is run a couple tests of the motherboard or download a file) so I did, I also asked them to disconnect my second hard drive and leave it alone. I dropped it off on Thursdays, they said I would get a call on Friday or Saturday telling me it was done, so Monday comes around, no call.

So I drive over there to find out what is up, they said they called and left a message saying they needed my back-up disks that came with the computer, I never had such a message but I drove home and got them the disks. So Wednesday I get a call saying they need either a hard drive or I need to change what I wanted backed up, so I take my external over and let them have it back up the 160Gs I wanted backed up.

Friday I went back to pick up the external only to find out that the back up had not been started yet. I head back out on Tuesday to pick up the external to find out this time it is only 20% done because it was not started till Monday. Thursday I go and final pick up the external, they said Friday. On Friday I go and find out that the Technician working on my computer had been sick so nothing had been done, I was told Saturday, it would be done. Saturday comes and I find out that it was the Technician's day off and they couldn't reach him so they didn't know if my computer was done or not and to call on Monday.

Monday I call and find out it is done, I go over to pick it up, and to my surprise not only is my computer ready for pick up but so is the bill of $180. After a long argument about paying the bill, the manager tells me to "just take my computer and go, go" after taking my computer out to the car, I went back into confirm that I don't have to pay anything he tells me " Just leave. Just leave." I said "So there is no charge right." He replies with "I didn't say that. Just leave, leave."

So I left and when I got home I plugged it in and my Internet worked, the mouse drivers installed and everything. Then I tried to change my screen-saver only to get a "run.dll failure" OK, I don't care about my screen-savers that much. Then I tried to access my second hard drive, only to find out that it has been wiped too, because it has none of my files on it. Not only that some of the files I asked have backed up weren't, at the time I thought they must of been on the second hard drive and it had already been disconnected but it appears it my never have been disconnected.

So I lost everything on my second hard drive, which I a lot of stuff that was important to me and had not been back up yet.
So now I have a computer that is missing 200Gs of files, and is not completely fixed. If anybody knows how to recover files please let me know.
Also I just thought of it but is it possible for the second hard drive in my computer to be somebody else's hard drive?

So about any mistakes, its late and I am tired and upset. Good night.

Edited to add paragraph breaks and fix spelling errors.

I'm sorry. I don't mean to be rude, but I just could not force myself to read that. It really needs paragraph breaks.

1) If you don't know how to recover files, don't. Moreover, DO NOT use that computer -- especially for surfing the web -- until you have had someone recover those files. Every single file you save, including temporary Internet cache files, will reduce the chances of restoring a file you want recovered.

2) It's possible. As a company, they don't sound all that competent.

Sorry Valentine, I hope that is better.

Thanks Tom. 1)I am on a different computer right now because I thought of that. Do you know if it is easy to do or if I should just accept that those files are gone and move on?

2) Even if it is my hard drive I still doubt their competence.

My post was more of a rant that allowed me to vent my anger than anything.
