Nathan and I brought a new family member home yesterday from Animal Services. A dignified Simamese cat, with the most handsome blue eyes, and a very "mouse-like" squeak of a voice.
Reading between the lines, he came from a home where he was not well-cared for, but he is a friendly, affectionate fellow. When he is not sleeping, he follows Nathan around. He'll roll on the ground and purr, asking for pets. His head-butts for rubs are firm, although his teeth look fairly yellow and older, and he will only eat soft food.
We'll meet the family vet this week, and get the full scoop. The pound had a benign cyst removed from his neck three weeks ago. The stitches are out and it looks like it's healing nicely.
We're glad to have him with us. *smile* We've been lonesome since Pepper's been gone.

Sam's definitely a "string-chasing" kitty. Not sure what to make of the little plastic balls. Looks like he wants to pounce, but holds back.
He was on his back waving his legs in the air while his belly got rubbed tonight. I've never met a cat that liked their belly being rubbed before.
He has a great spot up in Nathan's closet, too, on top of lots of cushy quilts. It's a quick hop from the top bunk up there, and now that he's mastered the ladder, he's a happy camper.

Oberon LOVES belly rubs. He's a total slut for them. He lays on his back, exposing his tummy, with arms over his head and legs either stretched out or straight up. It's quite funny.
Also, both he and Tellulah would play fetch with me - no one told them (or me, for that matter) that Cats Don't Play Fetch. You could give that a try - we used those fuzzy little ball-shaped toys with crinkly stuff in 'em. The cats go wild, and they're cheap, too.

Cats everywhere. Sheesh! I just got back from my friend's house. She has 4 cats. Now I'm all stuffed up, red eyed (and swollen), and it does look like I started to break out. Cats are evil.

I have cat allergies as well. They are not horrible ones but they are there. I can handle one or two animal houses but more than that tends to get a reaction rolling. I like animals too much to live without them.
I had a kitty I thought was siamese when I was much younger. He was a mutt-kitty with the siamese dark face, a coat that was darker than traditional siamese and thicker, longer hair that wasn't too long. His name was also sam. My youthful decree was that sam was an acronym for siamese agile menace, but he was just a silly kitty who felt it was his duty to wake people up at night by jumping on thier beds and drooling on thier faces. This always had the most comedic effect when my little sister was having a sleepover.
The cat I have right now is between 17 and 18 years old. I call him old man but he still picks up his creaky bones to get frisky enough for catching mice and such on occasion. He is the type of cat that always wants to be where you are, with the preferance that he be on your lap getting scratched.
I am bringing these guys up because even though not having animals would mitigate some of the allergy issues I have, I know I would miss having them around.

Your "old man" sounds like quite a character, calaban. My friend, Laura, has a kitty who is about 21. She's a hoot.
Sam's little "squeak" of a voice got dramatically louder last night after we all went to bed. I am consequently remembering how tired I was after having Nathan nearly 13 years ago. *yawn*
Hopefully, we have the litter preferences sorted out now, too. Type, locale, etc. Still trying different foods . . . He definitely likes the string-chasing, and is very much enjoying Nathan's piano teacher at the moment. Siamese tend to be quite talkative. Tellulah was a half Siamese/half orange tabby (which gave her pale peach fur with the Siamese markings) and she blabbered on and on and on and on and on. I wouldn't be surprised if Sam becomes quite the chatterbox himself. Posts: 8355 | Registered: Apr 2003

I'm hoping Sam and I come to an agreement about HOW early he can begin to practice his vocalizations in the a.m. If I can get him to at least hold off until 4:30 a.m., I'll be a happy camper. *super big yawn*
He appears to like the two litter box deal, too. One for #1, and one for #2. He's also learning to trust that I will provide him with lots of fresh water, so he doesn't need to rely on the toilet. *ewww*
I picked up some colorful yarn to finger-knit some strings for him today, but so far he wants to nap -- which means a sleepless night. *bigger yawn*
What a pity I can't go all nocturnal. It'd make work easier . . . *grin*
