A "sizzle reel" is a teaser put together for the purpose of generating interest in potential merchandise tie-ins and the like...

This is not the finished teaser.

Still...whets the appetite, doesn't it? [Cool]

Clarify please:

1) You're a fan of the book and feel this footage diverges too far from the source material.

-or-

2) You have no idea what The Golden Compass is. [Smile]

Bouncing for joy! I didn't think Daniel Craig would work, but he's growing on me. [Smile]

I'm so glad to finally get a glimpse of Iorek and Pan...rough as they are.

Even unfinished, Golden Monkey is creepy as heck! [Eek!]

I hope they do a whole lot more work on those daemons!

I do not like the cites at all. They are way too sci-fi. They should be "regular."

Disappointment meter is on the rise here.

The daemons are far from finished.

Reading the first book, I never got the impression the architecture of Lyra's world was an exact match for that in our own.

They look more Art Deco than futuristic. At least to me.

Wow, that's looking really awesome. I was a little worried about the actors at first, but they're starting to grow on me. The production elements look fantastic too, even in this early state.

Yeah, if they cut back on the "bloom" it'll look more normal. Hmmm.

I dig the architecture, personally. The art design doesn't nail my mental image of Lyra's Oxford the way Peter Jackson's LOTR nailed that 'verse, but it's much better than Narnia.

Iorek looks cooooooooool.

Kidman, Craig, and Green all look perfect for their parts (not that that's a big surprise).

Not yet sold on the girl playing Lyra, but we've still only seen a few seconds of her.

At first, like Elizabeth, I thought that the production design had gone a bit too crazy sci-fi/steampunk-ish. The weird red carrage thing is far out there. But then I got to thinking. It's supposed to be more of a parallel dimension, right? So its undergone roughly the same time span as our Earth, so has had a chance to develop differently. It's held on to some "old" technologies (blimpage) and spruced them up instead of moving on to other things.

Good cast. Armored Polar Bears. Blimps. Colour me hopeful. (I'm not sure how they're going to handle the third one. I don't mind the anti-Authority stuff, but it was kind of a disengaging and slow book.)

True. The entire film will rise or fall on how good Dakota Blue Richards is in the role of Lyra.

Hopefully the real trailer will have her do more than recoil, gaze in awe, and ride sentient polar bears. [Big Grin]

Oh man! This looks so good! I agree, though, that Dakota Blue Richards will make or break the film. It's kind of like Jake Lloyd in Phantom Menace. And we all know how THAT turned out. Still, I'm going to see this movie multiple times, no matter how bad. December 7th can't come soon enough!
