I'm breaking my self-imposed forum exile to tell you guys what I did this weekend.
I worked as a production assistant on a 48 hour film project, with Black Knight Stunts. My Beloved helped the Assistant Director get a loan, and happened to mention that his wife had taken a filmmaking class. One thing led to another, and suddenly I was in a production meeting with 30 people, none of whom I had ever clapped eyes on before. Pretty scary for a middle-aged house frau fairly set in her ways.
I snagged a few hours sleep here and there, crashing at a couple's house after helping to fabricate a unicorn horn until 4am (I was on the shoot site until 3-ish sopping up blood spatter from squibs (smelled like syrup- it's a little surreal to be scrubbing blood off the floor and thinking "MMmmm. Pancakes...") and then I realized they needed the horn by 8am.
I basically was put in charge of props and seeing that the services table stayed up and running at various shoots. The heat was in the high 80s with humidity in the 80-90% range, too. And the scenes were mostly fights, some in leather and armor and stuff.
They ended up changing the final scene just before it shot, meaning we had to scrap all the costumes and stuff and just do the best we could. It turned out even better than what they had planned.
I saw the finished thing last night, and I could not believe how good it was. FX, original music and everything on top of some amazing stunts, which is what the group does anyway.
I'm so excited! I just know it's going to win some awards.
It was cool for me to come into this group cold and be able to help out in small ways. It was 48 hours with 6 hours sleep and no change of clothes (and not even a hair brush). Luckily one super nice lady loaned me some shorts, or I would have baked on location (airport tarmack feels like the surface of the sun, dudes).
I'm excited and energized to see what a few people can do with vision and teamwork, and I met some great people.
Now that I've had some sleep and a shower, all I can think is, "AGAIN!"

Matt's friend did one of these: Klaus. Matt's friend Andrew plays the main character, Klaus.
It won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Audience Award, Best Editing, and Best Original Score for Salt Lake City, and it's going to the national somethingsomething.

That's awesome! ETA: It really, really is. What a great short!
This group won Best Stunts (I think it was called "Family Crisis" because they drew family drama) and made it into the city's top ten last year, even filming without lighting or a real crew. Their goal was to do better than last year, and play to their strengths (lots of action/stunts and little dialogue, because they are stunt people, after all).
This year, they drew Comedy, and it was hilarious. To me, anyway. I hope they'll have it up somewhere after the screenings so I can show you guys.

They have not said anything about the awards yet. I'm just dying to hear about it. Seeing it on the big screen last night was a thrill. The only negative was that the night scenes in the opening were darker than we had hoped, and therefore a bit confusing.
The showed it last of their screening set. I'm not sure what that means. My favorite scene was the woman fighting the ninjas in the airport hangar, though the Bond fantasy comes a close second.
Many of the other shorts were good, but several showed signs of the time crunch in the editing (one scene started with the diembodied voice of teh director saying "action" another had all the punching sound effects way out of synch with the punches-- which may have been intentional). I'm sure that was painful to get it done in time. The first three or four were labelled "not in competion" because they missed the deadline.

Well, I just found out that the film I worked on was chosen for the "Best of" screening before the awards ceremony next Monday. Woot! I'm so happy for them! Out of 55 submitted films, only 13 will be shown at the best of screening. I think they will definitely take best stunts again, but I'm really hoping the film is recognized for other reasons, too.

I hadn't read this when you originally posted--cool! You mentioned it in an email right afterwards, then I saw your hat and meant to ask you about it but anyway, congratulations! Is the film online anywhere? I didn't see it on the website.
ETA: Oops, now I see the "hope it's up somewhere" comment, so I guess you'll let us know if/when it is!
