My doctor says he is out of medicaid flu shots (apparantly the flu shots for medicaid kids are different then for other kids). He won't give us a prescription because she is little and he wants it given in his office and she is on medicaid and that isn't the procedure. I don't care if I have to pay $25. I just want my baby to be protected.

Go to the public health clinic in your area. They give them starting at six months. It should be free since she's on medicaid.

(If they're out, ask THEM for a prescription. If they ask why you're there, just say your doc is out.)

I called the number on the medicaid form to find a health clinic. They told me to call a different number. Those people told me to call the first people. I swear, why can't the doctor just give me the prescription and I will pay for it out of pocket? This is ruining my day off.

Scholar, did you get everything ok? I understand your frustration with getting the flu shot. When my son was on Medicaid I went through the SAME thing. I ended up having to go to the public health clinic on one of the very few days they were giving them to children.
My son isn't on Medicaid anymore, but I went through a whole other fiasco again this year. His doctor couldn't get him in, and then ran out of shots. Our next public health clinic wasn't until half way through December. None of the ones at pharmacies would do it for children under six. Finally I found out that Texas Med Clinic will give it to anyone (though you have to pay) at any time they are open.
Of course, if you're not in Texas, this doesn't help you much. Still, I'm sure there is probably something similar in your area. Good luck!

I am in Texas. In the end, my husband called the doctor's office, and suddenly, like a miracle, they had flu shots. When my husband asked how come they didn't have any the day before and told me it would be atleast a week, the woman said, "oh, I forgot about this shipment, oops." It amazes and frustrates me at how when I call people, I always get told that they can't do x or y, but when my husband calls, they can't help him fast enough. My husband says I sound like a pushover on the phone.
