The article's pretty much as reported on the news cast. The fact that the government's bankrolling them to the tune of $NZ12m means that they're taking it pretty seriously.

I hear ya, but based on the kinds of things that occasionally get government funding in this country (US), that's still not enough to convince me the technology has real promise. Perhaps the NZ gov't has a better track record.
