What is the reasoning behind this film?

I mean, sure, inane stupidity has always been a profitable market when it comes to movies. But this... this... just watching the trailer at WALL-E last night made me feel unclean.

Who would want to watch this? What is its target audience? It's this sort of thing that makes me embarrassed of seeing non-Pixar Disney flicks lately--because the company seems to be heading in this general direction. It's campy, overdone and just plain obnoxious.

Maybe that's the point. Maybe some people like to shell out money at theaters to have the most excruciating experience possible. Or maybe some people just really like flamboyant, annoying, yipping ratdogs.

Disney has ALWAYS done a large amount of drivel. Well not always, not back in the days of Snow White, maybe, but generally in between the great movies Disney puts out a whole bunch of real crap that's easily forgotten (if you're lucky.) It's not just lately.

And yeah, my four-year-old is the target audience, apparently. At least the advertising (and she doesn't see that much of it) is leading her to say "I want to see that doggie movie."

Chihuahua's can really be great dogs you know. I was never a small dog person, but Niki had a long haired chihuahua when I met her, and since then we've gotten another one. The two can be annoying with strangers, but are a great pair of dogs with people they know.

Not that this defends the movie in any way, of course. It still looks terrible.

Cor wants to see it. So do my kids.

>_<

There is a market out there of dog lovers who will eat up anything with cute talking dogs. Probably analogous to those people who eat up lolcats.

Cor wants to see it? Really?
Has she done or said anything else recently that you consider suspicious?

[Big Grin]

She's always been a sucker for the talking dog movies.

And commercials.

Yeah, I imagined so... Does she still hate me for the ending to My Dog Skip?

And, although I had seen the trailer online, nothing could have prepared me to see it on the big screen (especially the facepalm when they fly over an Aztec Machu Picchu).

But, behind me, kids were laughing and cheering.

So, I gotta say, Disney does know their audience.

I can see the draw behind that Nickalodeon movie with the dog motel that the kids start for dog refugees. That actually looks somewhat cute, though still outside my tolerance for animal movies.

This one just looks stupid. Though I will reluctantly admit....that that stupid song they sing in the trailer has been stuck in my head for days.
