In the house anyways.

Basically my roommate and his dad are both regular smokers of weed, I have one simple rule.

Do it outside, or in the case of Holden keep it to his room with the door closed, windows open and fan on.

Today I caught his dad smoking in the bathroom.

I was very annoyed, I explained calmely we had an agreement, you are smoking an illegal substance in my home there is no excuse or justification for it.

His response?

"why are you being so stressed man"

"its raining outside"

"there's a fan in the bathroom that sucks out all the air"

"I don't see the big deal"

"I'm not addicted"

Apparently my roommate let him do it in the bathroom, I will be having a talk with that one.

are you sure demanding your roommate smoke an illegal substance with a distinct odor while the windows are open is a good idea?

Also, isn't marijuana severely decriminalized in Canada? Are you worried about legalities or just don't want it around your personal space?(completely understandable, if i ever moved in with a smoker it'd only be under the condition that cigarettes would be smoked outside)

Did you know of his habits before you moved in together and did the two of you come to a mutual agreement about how his pot smoking would be handled? If so and he's gone back on his word you have every reason to be upset, but i'd guess you're probably in for severe aggravation and disappointment in the long run. If your rule was never agreed upon, well then, I guess I'd imagine the same result. Or maybe he just can't control or say no to his dad.

that sucks. like i said, if he's been fine otherwise it's probably just an issue of standing up to his dad, which you indicate will hopefully be a non-issue as soon as he isn't staying with you anymore.

good luck.

"You're a guest in my home, and that means you agree to abide by my rules. Those rules have been made clear to you, and failing to abide by them is disrespectful."

Just don't try anything while he's in the process of smoking weed. He's not likely to be very easy talk to.

If I were feeling less generous, I might also be inclined to point out that money that's going into buying marijuana is money that is *not* going into acquiring new housing.

Sorry to hear about that, it sucks. Hope the talk with your roommate goes well, but yeah, I wouldn't expect much. Is there any way you can find a new place to stay? It doesn't look well in the long run if you stay there.
