So, nathan and I have an xbox 360 and play a bunch of different multiplayer games. I've started this thread to see what other folks have 360s and what games they have, and also if they'd be interested in playing some multiplayer. I'm a bit shy with folks I don't know in multiplayer games, so finding familiar 'faces' so to speak to play with would be great.

Anyway. For multiplayer, I've got Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Gears of War, Rock Band, Frontlines: Fuel of War, DiRT, and G.R.A.W 2. Nathan also plays Marvel Ultimate Alliance, but I don't like that game.

Right now, I'm mostly looking for folks who'll play COD4 and Frontlines. Possibly Gears of War. Halo 3 has been frustrating lately, due to lag, some cheating, and people breaking the ranking system. However, if we could get eight people for a ranked Big Team Battle, that'd be awesome.

What games do other folks have? And are interested in multi?

My husband and I have yet to settle the great philosophical question of whether it's a bad idea to play on Xbox Live. But I'll let you know if he prevails.

We have an ex-brother in law who used to stay up all night gaming on Live and be unable to accomplish anything during the day.

Does GRAW 2 have co-op? I have the original GRAW, and I really enjoyed the co-op but only ever managed to finish one of the missions. I was doing it with one friend, though, and it seemed like the missions were designed for four.

Anyway, I have and would play:

Gears of War (versus and co-op)
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter (co-op, not so interested in versus)
Team Fortress 2 (The Orange Box)
Halo 3 (prefer co-op, but don't mind versus)
DOOM (versus and co-op)
Catan
Carcassonne
Worms

As far as shooters go, I usually only play the single player campaign, or co-op if it's available. I'm not really into multiplayer versus, as I don't have the time it takes to compete at even a mediocre level, and I don't really have much fun getting my ass kicked by teenagers. I do like playing sports game competitively though.

I have Rainbow Six: Vegas and Gears of War for co-op, and MLB 2K7, NHL 2K7, and Rockstar table tennis for sports games right now. I also have a whole slew of live arcade games, some of which have co-op.

I was thinking about getting Army of Two if it gets decent reviews.

Anyways, my gamertag is Seandor.

I've got Halo 3 and COD 4 (COD 4 for now, maybe permanently depending on how money goes.)

I'd be happy to do either with you folks during the week.

One good way to avoid the potential full friends list problem is to have one person create a Live Silver account, say Hatrack Gamers or something like that, and then have everyone friend it. Then the Hatrack Gamers account doesn't need to be signed in once the requests have been accepted, and everyone has a one-stop shop to see who's online from Hatrack right now.

I only mention this because my friends list is full. [Razz]

I have:

Halo 3
Forza Motorsport 2
Marvel Ultimate Alliance (or "gayest game in the world" as mackillian calls it (I've played it with Nathan))
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
Ace Combat 6

I'd be willing to make a Hatrack Gamers X-box live account, I'll get back to you guys as soon as it's done.

I forgot to mention it while we were playing earlier, but I'm planning on buying another Live enabled game soon. What would you and Nathan suggest?

Mack, the friends list limit is 100. You'd be surprised how fast it fills up.

I'll friend Hatrack Gamers tonight. My Live tag is Chemander Keen.

Also, I forgot to mention that I have Rock Band and like playing that online as well. Drums in particular, since I'm using Rock Band to learn drumming for real.

He should keep an eye on a game called Guitar Rising, in which you plug a real guitar into your computer and play along with songs. It's due out this year.

Rock Band drumming certainly teaches you limb independence and timing.

I sent an invite, my live id is ViolentREMs.

I play RockBand to the exclusion of all others. Expert bass/guitar mostly (darn you Green Grass and High Tides!!!), but I'd sing or drum, given the opportunity.

I also have most of the DLC (except the metal and Industrial, I have very little of that)

It doesn't teach you the guitar, but it does improve rhythm and hand eye coordination. And the drums are much closer to reality, and the singing is, well, singing.

GGHT sucked my will to live on the solo drum tour. On medium. 1. I don't like the song. 2. The song seems about five hundred years long. TORTURE. And it's mid-way through the tour, which sucks, because it seems much harder than any of the other songs on the higher tiers.

I'll ask him when he gets home. Preferably, one of the games we've already got. My opinion leans towards Gears of War, because it's got a great campaign you can do co-op, and I've heard the multiplayer is good as well. But I'll ask Nathan, too. We started a Gamefly account so we could test out full versions of games to see what we'd like. You also have the option of buying the game they send you via the 'keep it' option. Then they'll send you the case and instruction book with free shipping. The prices so far are less than a used game at GameStop, though we've yet to keep a game.

Yes, yes it DOES. Especially with the bass kick pedal. Drums are a serious pain in the rear until you learn to separate your leg from your hand/arm movements. That's a skill definitely transferable to meatspace drums.

quote:

That sounds awesome.

Oh, when people are talking Forza, are you talking Forza2? I ask because if it is, I should DL the demo to see if nathan and I would want to play too.

GGHT was the first song I failed when I started my original medium tour. It teaches you endurance -- you have to sustain precise timing at a faster pace than you're used to for a good two or three minutes toward the end of the song.

Once I finished the medium tour and improved, though, GGHT was pretty easy easy on hard and expert. Added: Especially compared to some of the songs that come after it.

Same here (on drums), so I "cheated". I saved my Overdrive, and never activated during the fills. That gave me breaks every once in a while.

Sadly, this is not possible on Expert Guitar. I always lose when the last solo gets insane at around 82%-85%. Grrr.

BlackBlade, next time you'd like us to hop onto another game, just send a message to one of us. I forgot to mention it to the rest of you (Hatrack Gamers) about that, we already established it with MEC. By 'it', I mean sending a message if we're on one game, you're on a different game, and would like to do multiplayer. More than likely, we'll switch over (unless we're on a last level of a game). We'd answer with "okay, let me get to a save point" or "last level, will switch when over" or a simple "okay" and do a quick switch.

I've yet to try the COD4 multiplayer and would like to try it (just not by myself!) What sucks, though, is both nathan and I can't play it at the same time (no split screen xbl or coop on COD4, which sucks).

Twink, I haven't tried the multiplayer on Overlord yet (as I'm still on the campaign). Not sure if I'm interested in that MP, but we'll see. Have you tried it?

As for Ao2, I'll copy/paste most of what I said on Sake (and add a little):

Ao2 is great, though at times it suffers from wonky camera angles, and all the different actions assigned to the A button overlaps at times, leading to doing something you didn't want to do, because a split-second prior, the option shown for pushing the A button had been something else—for example, 'feign death' instead of 'enter' (enter being a turret).

The fact that you can upgrade your weapons by using the cash you earn (and will get options for a mid-mission change to upgrade with your newly earned cash) is pretty cool. It allows for specialization for both members of the team, one person can be heavy weapons (SAW gunner, for example) and the other one the marksman type (using quieter, more accurate weapons). This allows for some pretty cool teamwork—SAW gunner lays cover fire, distracts the enemy entirely, while your partner can flank and pick 'em off one by one.

That ability is much enhanced by the 'aggro' system that Ao2 uses, and does take some getting used to. Basically, the person doing most of the firing attracts all the enemies attention. The more attention the enemy pays to you (and shoots at you), the higher your aggro gets. Once aggro gets full or nearly full, your non-aggro partner is practically invisible to them. You can sneak right up next to a guy and pop him in the head, and he'll be all WTF you weren't shooti—dead.

And I think the game will play out a bit different with every partner you have. Say, if I played this game a second time around with the AI, a third time around with another friend of ours, it'll feel different. It's a game with a very different, new spin on the typical shooter game. Often, the really difficult sections weren't about the ability to shoot very accurately as much as it was being able to work well as a team. When you adapt your teamwork on a difficult section, you find that the difficult part disappears. It's quite cool.

This is definitely a game where I'll be playing the campaign more than once. [Smile]

We haven't tried out the multiplayer yet as I tend to finish the campaign before doing MP. However, I'm not opposed to coop campaign at all (as that's the intent of the game, it seems).

Also note: this is a third-person shooter and not a first-person shooter. It sometimes has the feel of Gears of War, but in a good way.

Nope. I'm curious to see if it's anything like the multiplayer in Pikmin 2 on the GameCube, which is actually fantastic. Overlord's gameplay takes extremely strong cues from the Pikmin franchise.

Awesome. I love Gears co-op and multiplayer. [Added: And I actually prefer third person over-the-shoulder to first person, in general.]

bok-yes and yes

twink-I've never played pikmin, so I'd have no clue. On shooters 1st vs 3rd person, I'm not sure which I like better. More shooters are first person, so it takes a few moments to get used to third person. But, once I get into it, I like it just as much as first. *shrug* I guess I like both equally, each having its own qualities.

Nathan and I finished the Ao2 campaign for the first time last night. Definitely has a ton of replayability. I haven't had that much fun since Gears of War.

And I've noticed that I have more 'fun' with third-person shooters over the more seemingly serious first-person shooters (like Call of Duty 4 or Frontlines). Both have their own merits, though. I wouldn't choose one of over the other. I'm going to try the campaign sometime today with the AI to see what it's like compared to a live person. Since this game really requires 2-man teamwork, I hope the AI is decent (unlike Berzerker-suicide-committing Dom in GoW).

My only real gripe with Ao2 is the use of the A button. When options for the A button overlap, you can accidentally choose the wrong thing because one option will appear a split-second after another. Last night, it was a "Why didn't you drag me? Why are you FEIGNING DEATH while I'm DYING?"

"I meant to drag you! I really did! Then I got shot and it wanted me to pretend I was dead!"

"Stop pretending and heal me!"

"FINE!"

*shots fired*

...we both die.

One really cool thing (as in, we kept raving about it last night) was the GPS Nav system. It wasn't just a 'go over there' sort of thing. If you triggered the GPS/Nav (using the select button), the field of view gets a bluish screen to it. Then the path to your goal is in a faded orange color, with arrows pointing to your next objective. It also will outline major goals (and minor goals) in green. It will also highlight things like mines in red. We didn't figure out the mines thing until they'd killed us three times in a row. While the game has no radar (which I like), the GPS/Nav eliminated the "Where are we supposed to go now?" factor, something that tends to frustrate me in many games.

We also discovered that I suck at driving hovercraft and Nathan does not. The game automatically switches who drives and who guns each time—both players do both things. It would've been nice if we could've chosen on our own each time (as players have different strengths and weaknesses). However, that's easily solved (at least in split-screen) by trading controllers.

Anyway. I love the crap out of this game. [Smile]

Played some Halo 3 with T_Smith, mack, MEC, and Vassila Cora last night. I suck compared to them, but it was still fun. [Smile] We talked about playing some Gears of War today or tonight -- just drop a post in here or shoot me a message on Live.

Added: Oh yeah, the friend I've been planning to play Ao2 with hasn't been around, so I've barely gotten to play the game at all. [Frown]

Hi, people I haven't talked to in a while.

If I could get my internet to sabilize with Xbox Live, I'd teach y'all a little somethin' with Gears of War.

They're probably doing death match. Co-op campaign gets to be a little easy, even on insane, with people who have played on Live for a reasonable amount of time.

My husband and I have been leaning toward getting XBox Live and playing - he really wants Call of Duty 4, I think it is.

We play a lot of Halo 3 in our house on split screen, it would be nice to play online. I just haven't taken the plunge because I don't know if I can afford the vortex that will suck all of our time away.

Our other favorite family game on splitscreen is Star Wars Battlefront II.

We were indeed on expert/expert. We also gold starred Sabotage. [Big Grin] The practice did me good, too -- I'm now up to Don't Fear the Reaper and Foreplay/Long Time on expert drums.

That was actually an awesome night for me too. Some nights you just get in the zone, and other nights, you never get it. Such is the excellence of Rock Band

Halo 3 and Gears of War are the only ones I play online. I'm addicted to Mass Effect at the moment though. [Smile]

I didn't know you could cheat in Halo 3... Maybe that's why I get frustrated after about 30 minutes. [Dont Know]

Sounds like we might be able to get enough people together for a Gears night. [Smile]

It's a simple fact that you can cheat in any game, however since there are so many people playing Halo 3, it increases the amount of cheating as well, despite any efforts to stop it.

I'm hoping to get Gears soon, I've been getting tired of only playing Halo with other people.

I am also very addicted to Mass Effect. I keep thinking I can do one more mission or assignment or explore one more planet, and then I can't figure out where the last three hours went.

If you want, Nick, you can try playing Halo with us on xbox live (us being hatrackers). At least until Mark gets Gears from Gamefly.

Yeah. Last night I thought you guys were going to play SSBB until I was informed that you can't talk to the other players. However, when the SWAT list was up, that made Halo really fun again. Lately, it's either been really fun or really frustrating with no in-between. Nathan was talking about doing some custom games to see if we can do some teamwork strategies for the maps so we all get less frustrated.

Yeah. Halo 3 even has the old standbying left over from Halo 2. There's also lagging people out, bridging, glitching, you know, same old, same old. There's also a bunch of people breaking the Truskill system by getting their first accounts up into the high forties or up to fifty, and then making a new account to go beat up on the lower ranks. So instead of facing opponents on your own skill level, you're facing people ten to twenty ranks ahead of you on skill.
