I'm quite fond of eBay. I get a lot of dresses and things for my girls on eBay-- with the profits I make selling on eBay. (In an average month, I make $30-$50 profit-- enough to buy a book now and again, take us out to dinner once or twice, or buy something I want to get for my girls, especially if I buy it on eBay.)

My brother almost bought a $200 laptop on ebay, but the more he asked for information, the more shady the guy sounded. My brother eventually found several other auctions by the same guy on different sites, all of dubious nature, and the guy always wanted payment through very odd means, like a cashier's check to a different name sent to someone in Africa, when the seller was listed in Spain.
Fortunately, my brother was smart enough to avoid temptation.

I've bought several things for what I considered to be a good price. My LOTR collector's swords, some cds for half off what they probably should have been. I got all of the cartoon show The Tick (yeah it was a bootleg, but at the time it hadn't been released yet!), and all of Boy Meets World (which Disney has said will never be completed) for a reasonable price. Anime is a pretty good find on there.
Perhaps my best deal was buying the entire collection of Yu Yu Hakusho for $130. To clarify, I think it's like 32 discs, plus two movies, and each disc retails by itself for $20 (as anime for some reason does, the most expensive three or four episodes of a tv show on earth). So what should have cost me like $675 only cost me $130. They were used, but I don't care. I took them all out of their cases and bought a heavy duty steel CD case to put them all in for space saving and easy access. Best deal I've ever had. Now if I could just get them back from the friend I loaned them to a year ago...
