Obama drinks beer for racial understanding with the cop he crucified without knowing anything about what happened.

This story could be in the odd news section in my opinion and certainly doesn't make me think of Obama, a man I highly admired a while ago, as presidential or wise.

The guy admitted he made a mistake and miscalculated in answering that question in the first place...
This I reckon is his way of apologizing and who can say no to free presidential beer?
Unless they are me and hate beer and get sick from it...

Wow. I actually thought the President acted like a decent human being. Apologizing, bringing the two to the white house to sit and chat. It was nice.

I am aghast at your callous disregard for the importance about how the president's drinking habits prove he is a worthless human being.

Agreed!! I thought it was classy and quite refreshing after the last administrations never admit any weaknesses approach to governing.

Obama can never win. If he"d invited them to the white house for wine and cheese, they'd have called him elitist. If he had refused to comment on the case, he'd have been called cowardly and a "race traitor".

Well, god forbid a person should make a grave mistake, and then, having made it, actually try and make up for it!. What a cad this Obama is! Saying things and then taking them back! How dare he!

Can you point me to where Obama apologized? He seems to have said he should have chosen his words more carefully, but that's not really the same thing.

I imagine that was the point of the get together so that they could work everything out in private rather than simply making public statements that the talking heads could then pull every which way.

Except Sgt. Crowley specifically says that nobody apologized during the meeting. <edit>Maybe he just meant himself and Gates (reading the statements more closely, that seems to be the intimation). Still, I would expect that if the President had actually apologized, it would have been noted.</edit>

Of course Obama didn't apologize. He took flack for his racist attack against the cop, so he staged a PR event. That's all that happened.

Gates made a good statement:
quote:
Gates said he hoped the entire experience would prove to be an "occasion for education, not recrimination," adding that the burden now rests with him and Crowley to use the opportunity to foster wider awareness of the dangers facing police officers and the fears that some blacks have about racial profiling.

Eh, I don't care one way or the other about this. There are real reasons to dislike Obama. Who cares what kind of beer he drinks?

As for the incident with the cop. I think Obama's reaction was natural and to be expected. Maybe he'll learn to hold his tongue till he gets the details next time, but his knee jerk emotional response is one we'd all have. The man doesn't have any experience and now he's the leader of the free world. Of course he's going to have Faux Pas.

If you want to fight about the man's brain dead policies we can do that, but beer? Really?

I'd rather Obama learn a little more prudence in a situation like this than an international version. Everybody makes mistakes, better to get them out of the way on the small stuff.

I sell beer in a blue collar area, and the only thing anyone drinks is bud light, Pres. Obama probably hoped to strike a "Im just like you" image. The news jockeys must have been really bored to make this much noise over beer.

Ugh, he didn't really drink Bud did he? Disgusting.

Edit: I see that it he did. Ironically Crowley the working man showed the best taste of the three, picking Blue Moon, arguably better than Red Stripe, although Red Stripe has its charm as well. Bud light though? One of the worst beers I've ever had. Could it be also that Obama chose the Bud light because of the low alcohol content? The stuff is practically water after all.

Because some people enjoy the taste of beer, actually. It's an acquired taste- if you haven't acquired it, it's a bit difficult to explain.

Yes, but those who HAVE acquired the taste for beer (myself not included,) when given the opportunity to choose any beer in the WORLD, usually don't choose Bud Light, especially on tap.

It was a huge PR stunt, based on a good idea but waaaay overblown by the media and Obama's communications team. The whole "carefully crafted image" of the President is starting to get on my nerves . . .

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the red Belgian ale sold at Rock Bottom, a national brewery franchise. I'm normally pretty skeptical of franchise breweries, since their "micro-brews" are often anything but interesting, but this one was pretty decent. I'm not a huge fan of hops, so people looking for particularly hoppy beers should avoid my recommendations, but otherwise I'll give it four stars out of five. Blue Moon gets a 3.5, by comparison.

Bud Light, though? Gah. That's what you drink at a basketball game when they don't have anything else.

I think you're correct that there was no flat out apology but I don't really know that one was deserved either. He shouldn't have gotten involved and has hence said so. I suspect the only reason he said anything in the first place is because he personally knows Gates. But saying that a cop acted stupidly by arresting a pissed off Gates essentially for being pissed off doesn't seem racist to me. Obama has since said that Gates didn't behave well either and from everything I've heard and read about the incident, that sounds about right. They both acted a bit like jerks. I hope we stop hearing about this sometime soon.

Having only just tried it, all I can say is that it tastes good. And I enjoyed the touch of orange.

I don't believe he's said this, either. He made a statement that he should have been more careful in his wording, and indicated that he always thought both parties had made mistakes (although there was no criticism of Gates in his original statement, only the Cambridge PD).

He tried to adopt a more even-handed and nuanced position. What he didn't do was apologize, or indicate any regret at having inserted himself into an essentially local disagreement.

He was asked a question about it in a press conference. He could have declined to answer, sure, but I don't really think you can characterize that as inserting himself into the disagreement.

I see no reason for him to have apologized, either, but that's more an agree to disagree issue, I'm sure.

That sentiment probably works for dog urine as well...

Admittedly, I will actually drink beer whereas I never drink wine. I can't even stand the smell.
