I don't think I've had the flu in a long time, but at around 4AM this morning, I woke up because I couldn't breathe naturally. If I expand my lungs too far, I cough in a weird way, then feel nauseous, so I've been taking shallow breaths for the past 5 hours.

I was completely fine last night, and the only thing I can think of is taking those 2 flax-seed oil supplements before sleep and those causing some sort of alkalinity reaction. I've been eating spicy rice, and chicken to try and go more acidic, but really...what is going on here? I would like to breathe normally!

I have no insurance, and was hoping Claudia was still around. My general practitioner is out of town too. Not sure where to go, the ER seems a bit much.

Many cities have free or low-cost walk-in medical clinics. Your profile says Spokane. If that is still accurate, you might try this one or this one.

Even if you have the flu, I wouldn't go to a doctor straight away unless you were feeling really, really ill. The only serious thing a hospital can do for you is give you antiviral drugs, which they wouldn't do unless you were in serious danger of complications from the Flu. Otherwise, they'd prescribe you OTC meds.

Drink lots of warm tea and rest. If you want to feel better, take Theraflu or other OTC meds. I only take them before going to sleep for the night so I can get better rest but try to avoid them during the day as they really aren't healthy for you and just alleviate symptoms and not cure anything.

But oh man does it feel good to have symptoms relieved!

Not in Spokane anymore, gotta update that. I went to an urgent care clinic, and had a 104 fever. Some kind of viral infection in my lungs, maybe pneumonia because I've had it before.

So antibiotics, ibuprofen, and cough syrup for me.

It's just weird having this come on so suddenly. Feeling much better now, thanks everyone for your replies.

Oh my god, wow. So sorry to hear that! I hope it's beaten as suddenly as it struck.

Hope recovery is quick!

Why do they have you on antibiotics?

I'm taking that, I was guessing it was antibiotic, wasn't actually sure, and couldn't remember much of my doctor's visit. Was in a weird headspace. [Smile]

I felt much better though about 6 hours after taking my first dose, and the ibuprofen knocked the fever down.

Spent some quality time with the BF playing League of Legends, and eating hot soup. [Smile]

Azithromycin is indeed an antibiotic, and I think is commonly used to prevent or treat pneumonia.

Glad to hear you're doing better.

Thanks everyone! It seeeems to be still hanging around, and I'm on the fence about going back for a chest X-ray sans insurance. It says the antibiotics keep working 6-10 days, so I'm waiting and watching.

And seriously, $104 bucks to see a doc for 8-10 minutes? That's like being paid 1000/hr.

I added you Geraine, but I'm still a level 12 n00b. [Smile]
