Sometimes, you're not ready to commit to a full-fledged group, with schedules and so on.

Sometimes, you just have one story you'd like feedback on, or maybe even just a fragment that you don't know what to do with.

This is where you ask for help.

Don't post the story here, just describe it.

Or, if you must, put no more than the first 13 lines (which is equivalent to the first manuscript page).

We don't want to fill this space up with stories, nor do we want to use up your electronic rights to your story, so please don't post it here.

After you've put up your description or your first 13 lines, then ask people to contact you in email about you emailing them the whole story and about them emailing you feedback on it.

If you have any questions about how this works, please feel free to ask.

Do we need to post our critique here or should we just email it?

Thanks

I think it would be better to keep the critiques in email.

If the author wants a second opinion on a critique, it could be shared around among the other people who have given critiques, and the whole thing could be discussed in email.

I thought this was the way it always worked - for stories. Fragments - posts of 13 lines and the critiques of those fragments - I assume remains the same.

I encouraged keeping the critiques in email because all too often critiques quote the material being critiqued, and that could exceed fair use and infringe on the author's copyright.

You should have seen what things were like before I started the Fragments and Feedback areas. I like it much better the way it is now.

Oh wow... I'm really not very observant, am I? I just looked at the date on the original post...

I was looking more at the part about describing the story, not posting the story, and only if you have too, post the first 13 lines.
I haven't seen anyone just describe their story on here for a very long time. It seems now, posting the first 13 is standard.

The first time, many years ago when I really did not have a clue as to how to write without describing and explicating, I had a group. How do I do that now? One of my mates, daedalus, kept up with me for a long time. He helped me with a lot of things. I want that again.
