They're different. Analog is hard core scifi and Assimov's is softer and also includes fantasy. It really depends upon your tastes.

Let me rephrase: Which do You like better? Say you only had enough for one, and they both were printing authors whose stories you tended to like equally, and there was a man standing behind you with a really big gun, saying, "CHOOSE NOW!" What would you pick?

Analog, for three reasons: 1. I like hard SF. 2. Analog is the continuation of Astounding Science Fiction, which originally published a lot of the stories that I later read in anthologies when I was a kid. 3. Analog bought a story from me. Of course, I haven't yet gotten around to submitting to Asimov's, so maybe they will, too. Posts: 1517 | Registered: Jul 2003

If you can only subscribe to one, I think I would suggest Asimov's because their range is broader. But if you are only into harder sf, or at least not into any fantasy, I would say Analog.
My husband got me subscriptions to both, plus F&SF and a guitar magazine for Christmas!
Course, now I have to keep up with them! At least I hopefully won't miss out on Eric's story...

Asimovs. They seem to have a braoder range of stories on an issue by issue as well as a year by year basis, so I am more likely to find at least one I really like. However, I admit a strong bias toward fantasy and towards markets more likely to buy stories from me (The same thing really, about a 10 to 1 ratio F to SF in my work) so its not much of a question for me really.
