how do I take a picture/illustration that is saved in open office and turn it into a jpeg file? In my 'save as' list, there's no jpeg program to save it into.

Try hitting the print screen button, pasting that into an empty paint file, then saving that as JPG. Not sure what version of paint you need to save them as JPGs, but on Windows XP I'm able to.

Try copying the pic and pasting it into Open Office Draw, where there's an Export option that offers JPEG.

Hope this helps,
