January 05, 2009 Did You Write?

Another week, another prompt to see if you wrote at some time during the week. The idea is to have a short term goal to aim for, to get yourself writing. That is what this note is about. I post it each week. I intend to be able to discuss whatever I wrote during the week. That gives me a reminder of "I have to write or I will have to admit it." That usually enough for me, though life does get in the way at times. I hope it does it for you also.
Of course, Each week, I list the things that I consider to be writing, that some here might forget it writing. On can come up with others very easily. It is up to you to decide what is actually writing. No one is going to judge you for your choices.

As for me, I did do some writing. I had two separate documents involving a similar sequence of events. They were actually different versions of them. I took portions of one, and pasted it into the other and made some corrections. I then dug into the one I removed writing from and added more. That one started at a thousand words, and is now at 1800 words. I likely added a thousand words to it after I cut it down. That was not bad for writing.
I looked back through my records and found I only completed one story last year. I was surprised as I was writing a lot of stories. Only finished one. I have a whole bunch of stories that are not finished, like eight or nine of them. If I start finishing stuff, I will have great production this year.

I did well on the story ideas. I did a word count and am not complaining about the results. I posted 370 total ideas. Because this was a leap year, I only came up with four extra story ideas. I wished it were more than that. Those 370 story ideas came out to 564 total pages single spaced. that comes out to four, 250 page books. I love that this is pure drivel and I still write that much. That is 376,701 total words by the way.

This is a time where many people make New Year's Resolutions. Last year, I made a bunch of joking resolutions. things on the idea of going bankrupt, getting arrested, living under a bridge after losing everything, having heart attacks, and so on. Surprisingly, I ended up not keeping any of those resolutions any better than the good ones. Like I thought, I don't make resolutions so I don't have to keep them.

As to the question of the day,
I can say YES, I DID WRITE.

Did you write?

Finally, finally, finally, I can say, "Yes!"

First 4600 words of the first draft of a new story that will probably end up novel-length.

Yes. 5 days in a row. Thats something I havent been able to say in nearly a year. finished 1 short 8600 words, still needs some tweeking, but shouldnt take long. Started another, and nearly 2,000 words into it. Story ideas came along as well with 2 more shorts planned for the coming months.

Anyways, Yes I wrote, and it feels good to be back into a rythm.

I'm taking some time off writing---I just finished the draft of what I was working on, and want a break---and a little perspective---before I start digging into it and cutting it down.

Yes, I did write. I did some editing on two pieces that I intend to send out. I got caught up in writing a historical analysis of aliens in cinema. And I did some critiquing. As far as counting the actual words - I don't; it just depresses me.

Mostly revisions. But, yes. I wrote at least a little almost every day. Can't wait to get back to really writing. But the revisions have to be done, too.

Most of my writing last week was for blog posts, with loose association to my fiction. I spent little time on editing my most recently completed short story and considerable time creating excuses for why I'm not ready to continue Odal's Story.

While I just barely joined, I did in fact write a bit this week. Not as much as previous weeks. I tried my hand out on some new stories, and even tried rewriting a story I'd lost focus on, from a different angle.

Mostly, I've been trying to read a lot. I figure if I'm not writing, I should be reading

This week I mostly concentrated on poetry. I have been collecting some ideas for short stories and hopefully will start developing them this week.

Yes I did. I even started on a totally new story, which I haven't done for almost 6 weeks! So I'm excited to be tasting fresh prose again!
