We're almost to the start, not of the next quarter, but the quarter after next and still no report on the fourth quarter results

how unusual is this?

It happens this time of year. KDW falls behind during the awards from the previous quarter. Then you have the holidays and she is working on completing a novel on top of it.
She wrote on the WotF forums that she was sending one-third of the scripts back. Of course that requires them getting to LA and Joni then doing her part. I am assuming some people should be getting news by now.

Also, I've heard that this past quarter was one of the biggest quarters ever.

I've often gotten my reply back on 4th quarter about December 30th/31st, or even early January. It's just that time of the year for everyone.

I was told that Q3 was the biggest quarter ever--but then I would say that, as it panders to my vanity!

The reason KDW isn't finished is that she's been editing her novel for her publisher (a deadline) and she has apparently done about a third so far. If you check the WOTF forum...

I went there. It's still the same third quarter blog that's been there forever.

Where did you see a fourth quarter list posting?

I guess you may need to refresh your page because the title of the blog entry is:

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE AND HERE WE GO WITH THE START OF 4TH QUARTER RESULTS...

followed by a long list of names.

I see NickT on the HM list, but that's the only name I recognize. Congrats! Anyone else from Hatrack?

Congrats to NickT, and hopefully the lack of Hatrackers indicates more HM to come, and some finalists too!

More results might be coming soon. KDW posted this today: I sent back another whopping big bunch of stories on New Year's Eve and am now finishing up the last lot.

Hi,

Huh, I didn't know about this until deciding to check on Hatrack as I've been away for a while (busy life). That's pretty neat.

Thanks everyone,

Nick

I've poked Peter at WOTF about the size of the Q3 slush. He's not gotten back to me yet, though I am pretty sure that Q3 took the cake, in terms of sheer volume.

I am sure the economy has a lot to do with that. Lots of people throwing manuscripts -- any manuscripts! -- at the Contest, trying to get some cash.

Me, I am rooting for a few select souls by name. Otherwise, I am rooting for everybody, just on principle. As break-in sales goes, getting WOTF is a real hoot, and skadder and I have not even been to the gala yet. The check alone... Let me just say a copy of mine is framed under glass and hangs at my writing desk now.

Chump change, it is not. (Yoda voice)

I don't know. I found that weird myself. Maybe that was her title, and it was a clerical error, or maybe...

Congrats. I loved scrolling down and seeing two of the top three winners of Q3 are from Hatrack. Way to go again, and good luck to the rest of you who are still pacing.

Now if Adam (Skadder) freezes to death before the awards are given, do they pick a replacement? I'm just asking because Britain sort of resembles Hoth right now and Adam has been having trouble getting his imperial walker started in the morning just to get to work.

It's been bl@@dy freezing, but luckily I have the Force (a new brand of coffee) to help me get to work. But I believe Joni says that they find the nearest Englishman who has entered the contest who lives in LA if I don't make it...

Weather can be such a pain. It's 77F here and I can't decide if I should wear jeans or shorts to work. I guess I'll wear the jeans, it might cool off towards the end of the day.

Three finalists outed themselves on the other forums. I suppose we will find out tonight since everyone is being so humble

Has the originator of this thread heard nothing either? Or more humility?

Waiting on word if any Hatrackers got the Golden Tickets is like the anxiety of peeling back the corner of a Wonka Bar to see if you are a WOTF finalist.

Congrats to Chris Owens.

Man, I am not kidding when I'm telling you that I have yet to hear about my entry. About half of the time I learn how I did after the top 16 are announced, which fills me with false hope everytime.

I wonder when (if) I get my script back.

Chris, from all accounts this was one of the toughest quarters ever. The forums have multiple posting from writers who got HM's and Semis previously and were rejected this time around. Your Semifinalist could probably be looked at as a step forward due to the level of competition.

Semifinals are better than a straight reject--which I was starting to wonder if I was due...

Thus far I've aquired an interesting symmetry:

Finalist : *
Semifinalst: ****
HM : ****
Reject : *

Chris congrats on another semi-finalist. It must be nice to be so consistent...but also frustrating--still at least you get the crit. The dice will roll good one day.

Someone called Brenta Blevins was a finalist about five times and never won--go figure...I think she disqualified herself with pro-sales in the end.

Chris, when you get the crit, could you send it to me with the story so I can see what she says? I'd love to read it.

Sure enough. Remind me in case I forget between now and then. Don't expect anything too amazing though... it was kind pushing my envelope and I might've been overreaching.
