I thought some folks here might like this blog post by Jeffrey Small as much as I did (though, it's only part 1 of 2). On the topic of his experiences getting published for the first time, and learning writing in general, I thought he made some useful - and reassuring - observations.

Oy! I can imagine, but don't want to. Gehakteh leber iz besser vi gehakteh tsores. "Chopped liver is better than miserable troubles." Getting a novel published seems too much a pain. Perhaps it is better to focus on the writing one enjoys and leave the possibility of publication in G-d's hands.
Respectfully, Dr. Bob [summa cum laude, physician, medical Fellow, company president, state medical society president, Department Chairs of three hospitals, Army veteran, etc. etc. that, per the link appropriately means nada. All that counts is good entertaining writing.]
