Rolf certainly has his own reasons for offering to help the women. At first, he seems to be interested in the inheritance, claiming to have been hired to find and purchase a particular magical artifact that might have been in their grandfather’s possession. His interest soon shifts to Valeriah, though, and its obvious what he wants from her. That’s just one more problem, from Valeriah’s point of view. She’s attracted to Rolf, which only makes matters worse, because she’s never had any luck with men and the last thing she needs right now is the complication of another disastrous relationship. Much to Rolf’s frustration, she runs herself to exhaustion during the next full moon to control her impulses.
