I'm still in shock - I was sure it was a boy. My mother and mother-in-law are thrilled. It turns out that they both were hoping for a girl.
She and I are both perfectly healthy. She's a very active baby - it took the poor technician forever to take measurements b/c she was moving around so much. She's also the average weight for her age, which is a big relief for me.
To anticipate a question that I think a lot you will have: yes, we have a name. However, it's very bad luck to say it before she's born, so you'll have to wait. We're calling her Ladybug in the meantime.

Well, if you are calling her "ladybug" right now until she's born -- my money's betting she retains that nickname for many years!

Somehow I see lots of ladybug prints in this little Ladybug's future... and I'm going to need to buy some red yarn pretty soon, I think.

Thanks, y'all. I'm still getting used to the idea. One thing is for certain - this will be the most overdressed child ever.
Space Opera, if you will agree to plan the wedding, I'll draw up the papers right now.
kq, she does need those!
rivka, do you know where I can get a My First Hanukkah onesie or t-shirt? I can't really find any online and we don't have a Judaica store here. If we go to NYC in the fall, I'll stop at West Side Judaica, but I don't know if I'll be able to go.

Thanks, everyone. I think it's finally sunk in. My mother already found a dollhouse for her and is getting all of my Madame Alexanders and storybook dolls out of storage. I've already planned her wardrobe for the first 2 years of her life.
I'm also starting to worry about specific things. Her height is chief among them. Andrew is 6'5'' and I would have been about 5'10'' if I hadn't hit puberty early (I'm 5'4'' and have been since age 10). Both of our families are very tall. I don't want her to be over 6'. We're starting a fund for her Bat Mitzvah and wedding (and college, of course). I passed a Limited Too yesterday and was appalled by what I saw in the window - low-cut tank tops with sequins across the bust for 8-year-olds!?! Jeans with "Flirt" written across the seat!?! It really bothered me - I want my daughter to dress like a child, not a miniature (promiscuous looking) adult. Maybe those trends will be over by the time she's that age.
rivka, I love all those outfits, but I think I'm going to go with the hand-painted, personalized one.
kq, I didn't know Dillard's had such adorable children's clothing! We have 2 here.
Shigosei, those are adorable, but they don't seem to come in pink.
I actually bought a blue dress for her - it's a pale blue toile with a matching hat. At least she'll have one outfit that's not pink.

I hated pink so much I didn't tell anyone we were having a girl in the hopes they would buy green and yellow and orange. Some did. Half of them waited until she was born-- so they could buy pink, despite my loudly stated preferences. I learned to tolerate most shades of pink. *sigh* But you know what? Even though she has always looked like a girl, even if she was dressed in a frilly pink dress, people still asked if she was a boy or a girl. Welcome to the world of babies...
I am sure you are aware of Land's End, which has many, many modest, cute, pretty, well-made options for girls in their line.
And I wouldn't worry about her height just yet; puberty tends to run in families as well, so she may go through it as early as you did, or she may be tall, or she may get some recessive genes and not be. Either way, it'll be okay.

I highly recommend a Land's End backpack diaper bag, BTW, while I'm thinking of it. They're wonderful, come with lots of extra compartments and stuff, and even a bag to put wet clothes in, plus most of the colors they offer aren't too girly, and they're comfy and look pretty much like a regular backpack, so Dad won't mind lugging it.

And they are SO well made. I had clothes made by them that were passed down to a friend, to her little sister, to another friend, to another friend, to HER little sister, and they are still going strong-- no fabric thinning, very little fading, little or no pilling (depending on what they are), no seams coming out. Wonderful.
And when the diaper bag my dad had fell apart from two years of constant use, he sent it back with a note, and they replaced it with the updated model at no cost to him, since they didn't make that kind any more. They even refunded his shipping. They really MEAN their lifetime guarantee.

Mrs. M, I volunteer with fifth graders, and sometimes I'm shocked at how adult they're trying to look. I've seen girls who are dressed "older" than I am.
I'd try to convince your daughter that this looks stupid. Adults will take her more seriously if she dresses in an appropriate style for her age.
On the other hand, you might also want to be prepared for the possibility that Ladybug won't want to dress up. I never really enjoyed wearing dresses when I was younger, and I still avoid it whenever possible.
