FC, it sounds like you did the right thing. (((FlyingCow))) Your principal sounds like a dear as well and I'm so glad that she didn't make your situation more unpleasant. What a blessing.

I'm in the middle of my first year of teaching. I read the first post in this thread on a day that I was feeling exactly the same way...it was rather interesting. I had wild thoughts of "I feel the same way! Wouldn't quitting be fantastic?" I think that was just the "Getting back to work after Christmas break" blues mixed with some personal depression I've been dealing with on my own. I felt better in a couple days. My mantra is "They promised me it would be better after my first year." [Smile] While the moments when I like my job outnumber the moments when I don't, it's still really really hard for me. I'm stretching in ways I'm not used to stretching and my brain and body are constantly exhausted. I often wonder if this really is my life's work, or if I'll make it to the 5 year mark. I guess we'll see.

Anyway, there's really no point to this except to tell you that, as a fellow public school teacher, I'm sympathetic and I wish I could give you a hug. I'm sorry you've been unhappy and I really hope that you're on the way to some freedom and healing for yourself. As Elizabeth said, YOUR mantra should be "NO GUILT!"
