These are some off the beaten path professions that are well paying according to
http://money.cnn.com/2003/12/09/pf/more_sixfigjobs/index.htm?cnn=yes

The list includes
Fitting Model
Court Reporter
Closed Captioner

The last two sound like incredibly tedious but high paying jobs if you have a good attention span.

I made good money working as a Diesel Fitter for Victoria's Secret one holiday season.

See, the husband/boyfriend would come and and say, "My wife/girlfriend told me she's a size 7. Can I get those in a size 7."

The store associate would get the prescribed undergarment.

The man would look at them and say, "Those can't be a size 7. That is way to small."

At which point the store associate says, "Oh, these need to be fitted first. Can you show me what her size 7 really looks like?"

He would describe it in some terms that men use.

Then the associat would say "Excuse me." Then she would walk to the back room where I sat with various crow bars, vices, and other stretching equipment. I would take the undergarment and tug and pull and stretch and turn that size 7 into a size 11 or whatever the customer described.

When I was done, I'd take the finished product out to the waiting customer and say....

"Her sir. Diesel fitter now."

When I

I find that highly ironic. I did some searchs earlier this year to find colleges with 100% acceptance rates, which also cost under $5,000 a year. Guess what most of them were? Schools for court reporters.

My first thought reading this sentence was "Since when does Victoria's Secret carry Diesel?" My second was, "Since when am I such a girl?"
