10 years ago would have done it for me. They were in full-swing, they had a host of fleshed out background characters, and they still cared.

If the Family Guy movie wasn't as great as I thought it would be (seriously, it basically a longer episode; the only thing they added for the movie was more pointless cursing) why would I watch a movie for a tired old dog like the Simpsons?

Well my sisters and I were screaming for a simspons movie when we were 8 years old and it was all magic. I haven't watched a new episode premier in many years.

Grumpy old jaded Simpsons viewers. I for one am stoked, and i get together with friends every sunday night to watch new episodes, and we like them. so pffffft!
oh, and how on earth can you base the potential of a Simpsons movie on an inferior knock-off like Family Guy?!

Because Family guy is a lot funnier then The Simpsons nowadays, as is Futurama. To bad it was cancelled. It'll be back though.
