If bad things come in threes, then next summer I am due for nothing but bliss.
In 2003, my grandmother ran me over. (Accidently, of course.) The recovery from that continued through the following summer. In 2005, I got double pneumonia. This summer? My cat bit me.
Suffice to say, she is now in happy cat heaven , and my foot is still healing. Who would have thought cat bites were so deadly? If I ever want to poison someone, I'm going to invest in a slim needle and cat saliva.
My foot -- within minutes -- was swelling and ugly. It looks like two vampires simultaneously went for the gold -- and the mess was not fun to clean up. *ack*
IV antibiotics, tetanus shot, seven shots of antibioitics in the bum, and second round of oral antibiotics, it's finally clearing up, and all the destroyed tissues are doing their song and dance as they heal. Thankfully, there is no infection in the bones.
(Did I mention this happened July 2? 4-6 weeks the docs say it'll take to clear up, and we're still looking at possible nerve damage. )
Unfortunately, my calico princess had been acting up for the last several months. Nipping at my son, she also bit my ex-husband a couple of months ago, and my friends Doug and Laura stopped being willing to feed her when I was out of town because she was so frightening. The vet said it was kinder to put her down . . . and since she now had me tweaked out, and I was scared for Nathan, that's what we did.
I still miss her, though. When she was feeling cuddly, she was a delight to snuggle with . . . and she sure kept the flies and spider population down around here.
*thwacks yet another fly and stomps on another spider*
Blessings to Pepper in her new heavenly home where she can nip as she needs and pleases.
Healing thoughts for my foot.
And comfort for my little lad who misses the cat that mostly snarled at him, anyhow -- So much for summer 2006.
Taking the positive approach, I have decided that I WILL BE healed enough for an actual vacation third week in August, so I'm taking Nathan to the ocean for a few days.

Hope you feel better. And you're in Seattle, right? I think you were one of the ones originally interested in the Pac NW gathering I tried to get going.

Oh get well. Calicos can be witchy *said with experience*
A family friend bent down last monday to stop her jack russell and beagle from fighting, and her hand got in the way. Within 24 hours the finger was so swollen that she couldn't do anything with it. She spent three days in the hospital, her husband had to take them off to take care of their two kids under 4. It was that infected, they removed the tip and she's now in physical therapy. Luckily it was her left hand. Both dogs are fine.

Phew!!! I feel better breyerchick -- and sorry for your friend. Ouch!
The doctor tried telling me dog bites were the least dangerous of three types -- perhaps he was fibbing a bit:
Human (dirty mouths, lots of germs) Cat (puncture, deep bites -- festering bacteria) Dog (usually broken bones)
He said human bites were the worst.
*shudder*
Oh -- and for folk's edification: IF you get bit by something (domesticated or not) AND it breaks the skin (particularly if it's deep) the doc says the ER is the place to be for immediate intravenous antibiotics.
I thought I cleaned my bite up well, and did get into the doctor's office 12 hours later, but it was VERY infected already spreading throughout the foot and heading up to the ankle. He was not a happy camper . . . but who'da thunk?

I'm sure the antibiotics will really appreciate the help. Wouldn't it have been more useful to pray, a few weeks back, for this not to happen?

Didn't your momma ever teach you "If you can't say something nice, please don't say anything at all." ?

Well, ye gods, how useless are these Christians, then? Me, I make a point of praying every day to the IPU that the Sun should not go nova in the next 24 hours, and lo and behold, Her Pinkness has answered my prayer every time.

That would explain why my prayers that it go nova immedietly keep going unanswered.

Nice BlackBlade. Snarky comment and 666 at the same time!!
Shan, my dear, I can't believe this! I'm so sorry you're not able to enjoy your summer. I hope you have a great time in August though and I know that next summer will be precisely the bliss that you're planning on. It just has to be!

Shan, we saw a myth busters that said that dog mouths are dirtier than well cared for human mouths.

good thoughts and prayers are still welcome, as the healing process doth continue . . . my visualization skills of healthy footsie need moral support. *smile*
And if anyone would pray for a little rain and less heat, I'd appreciate that, too. Less swelling of the tootsies, that way . . .

After seeing the House episode on this subject, and reading this thread I am going to go straight to the ER if I ever get bitten by anything.
