Only that you may not be in the natural audience for that book. I enjoyed it, personally. But then, I really get into stuff like that.

Stick with it. I loved it, and have reread it twice. The split format (Columbus to the pastwatchers) makes it a bit stop and start, but it soon picks up.

It gets better. I found the beginning to be eye-throbbingly boring. After aobut half-way through the book, though, I got into it.

I couldn't put it down. Really. I spent a Saturday on it the first time, and I've re-read it several more times. Then again, I'm a history junkie as well as a sci-fi junkie.

Yes -- at the end of chapter five it suddenly gets interesting. I felt the same way about the first part of the book, but it picked up quickly after that point.

One suggestion...it's possible to read the book while skipping the Columbus parts at first. You miss alot, but that's what I ended up doing the first time. Then, once I realized I loved it, I went back and read it through the normal way. It was even better.
