Hello. I just registered to Hatrack but I've been here a few times.
Thing is, I think I found ANOTHER error...maybe.
Okay, please try not to spoil cause I'm only on "Ch.18 Yerevan"
In Shadow Puppets (SPOILERS) Bean and Petra make 8 embryos.(By the way, how'd Petra get all those eggs so fast?) Volescu discards three of them.
In Shadow of the Giant , Bean and Petra are trying to find 8 children again b/c they thought Volescu tricked them. Weren't they watching him though? How could he?
Anyway, what I REALLY didn't understand was at the end of the chapter when Petra recovered Bella and already had baby Ender. She said "Seven to go." Was baby Ender's embryo created after the first 8 maybe? I always thought it was one of them...

p171, Shadow Puppets: "There had been nine embryos. One had been implanted and three were discarded.[...] Unless Volescu had actually found a way to switch the three that were supposedly discarded, switching containers somehow."
So, there was 9 embryos from the beginning and even though they did watch Volescu, they still suspect he might've not destroyed the three extras.

Exactly what is the role of an editor? I always pictured them as stodgy English majors who checked spelling and grammar. How much of continuity are they responsible for in a work?

Well, I know there have been times when an editor has changed a "mistake" in continuity that was actually the way it was supposed to be. When Bean visits Ender's "childhood home" in Greensboro is one such instance, I believe.
