I apologize if this is a subject already discussed. Please link if it is.
Barnes&Noble notified me today that the Ultimate Iron Man will be available soon by OSC. I haven't seen mention of this in Hatrack, am i missing something? Please let me know.
Also, Wikipedia mention Christmas in Battle School, also news to me. So, if you have info on these, please let me know.
This may prove that i fail at being a true fan, but i would really like to find out.

Ultimate Iron Man is a comic book. He's been writing it for some time now, although the schedule is highly erratic. B&N is likely advertising the trade.
Christmas in Battle School was first mentioned about a year ago now. He's confirmed that he's working on it.

B&N is indeed advertising the upcoming graphic novel paperback book, combining the first five issues of the comic book.
Christmas in Battle School was supposed to come out this past Christmas. It'll be next year, because I didn't get it written in time.

Have more issues of the comic been published than what appear in the trade paperback? I just picked it up, and it really ends on a cliff hanger.
I really like it. Iron Man isn't my favorite title; I most likely wouldn't have bought it without OSC's name attached.
My knowledge of the "mainline" IM is sketchy, but I know about the artificial nervous system and the alcoholism, plus Jim Rhodes and War Machine, so I could appreciate how the story was altered while keeping several main plot points intact.
What I like about Marvel's use of non-comic authors (Straczynski, Wheedon, etc.) is that the authors' voice and other strengths shine through while still being true to the characters and Marvelverse. Ultimate Iron Man is no exception.
Good job, OSC! But this means I really need to know when the rest of the story will be out. Posts: 26071 | Registered: Oct 2003

I can't wait to get the first book. I'm not a huge comic book (or graphic novel) fan, but if its got Card's name on it, it's gotta be good.

Did somebody say "Christmas in Battle School?"
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the wheel, Not a creature was stirring, not even a Achilles. The shower towels were hung by the 'toon bunks with care; Bean hoped that brother Nikolai soon would be there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of battle room danced in their heads. Anderson in his 'kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled down for a 19:00 nap, When in the battle room there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bunk to see what was the matter.
To the first level I flew like a rocket, Palmed open the door, drew the hook from my pocket. The LED on the breast of the new-waxed walls Gave a sparkling glow to the target-practice balls. When, what should my wondering eyes then render, But an eight-year-old boy by the name of Ender, With a lad beside him, so full of aplomb, I knew in a moment it must be Crazy Tom. More rapid than eagles his army they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
Now, Dumper! now, Hot Soup! Now, Petra and Vlad! On, Carby! On Meeker! Our battle scores are rad! To the top of the star! Now don't stop to clown! Which way is the enemy's gate? It is down!
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky, So down to the far gate his army they flew With their light guns a-blazing, and flash suits lit, too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard from the vent The prancing and pawing of Bean as he went. As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Off the wall Ender came with a bound.
He was dressed in his flash suit, with lights that did blink, And a glint in his eye that showed he could think. His eyes -- how they twinkled! His face, how sweet! I knew he could lead us to the Buggers' defeat!
He called to his army with all of his haste, And the deadline encircled him 'round his young waist. His army assembled on the north of the star, Took hold of the deadline, a thing most bizarre. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, Leaped down off the star; then turned with a jerk, And crashing quite hard into the other side, And rebounding violently, circling wide, Richocheted off the walls, to his army gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ere he went back to work, "Happy Christmas to you, Graff! You fat, mean, old jerk!"
(I hope this doesn't qualify as the much-maligned fan fiction. It's parody, okay? Also, I know Petra, Carby, and Dink weren't in Ender's army, and that Ender didn't use the deadline. It's artistic license.)

Thanks, I'm glad you guys like it. I had fun writing it (while I ate some pumpkin pie). Do you think I can use this as my application piece for Literary Boot Camp? Posts: 1006 | Registered: Jun 2006

It's funny how, on several occasions, the posts that are most often ignored or skipped over are those by OSC himself. You all in denial at him posting here?

I'm assuming before Christmas, since most stores are closed on the day itself, and it'd make a great gift. The story is about Christmas at Battle School (obviously) but it follows Dink, in the days before Ender. Search back through old threads, there should be plenty more info.

Still wondering on Ultimate Iron Man 2? And if you haven't read the first series (sadly only five issues) I'd recommend. Anyway, any news on when or if on series two?
