Well, he wasn't going to have time to finish Pretty Boy until the script was done, and Pretty Boy is available, so I expect that it's done.

Actually, a script is only "finished" when the final edited version of the shot film is released in theaters. And even then, as directors' cuts have proven, it might not YET be done.
I finished a draft. Tweaking continues. I haven't been fired yet so I'm still part of the process ... we'll see.
What I REALLY just finished was Empire, to be released Nov. 1. My publisher - the editors, the production staff, everybody - are absolutely wonderful to put up with my late delivery on this book.
I'm never late on purpose. In this case, the Ender screenplay kept me from really starting till late; the good thing is that Empire writting this summer is a MUCH better book than it would have been had I written it last winter.

What's it like writing to a schedule? I mean sometimes don't you just want to be some sort of romantic image of the aloof writer, sitting at his writing desk by a lakehouse with a boat in the water... "well I could just go fishing..."
I want to be a writer, but I was hoping at least some of the romantic portraits of legendary writers were just a little true. It might be nice to have a lakehouse right?

who's to say he didn't write it at a lakehouse occassionally going out to do some spontaneous fishing, writing an epic novel reclusively enveloped in the mere sounds of that the writer will make and/or cause and the wildnerness, everything outside of his house....hmmmm...i we'll never know...

Ahh, the good old days, when we would read the manuscript as it flowed, chapter by chapter, out of Word Perfect directly into the Hatrack River Town Meeting.

I suspect that Mr. Card's writing process involves sitting in the attic typing his brains out for hours on end, interspersed with periods of ordinary real life. I don't think he's one of those escape-to-the-lakehouse writers...
