A quote from a member of ornery

"Well, I just visited with Scott and Kristine Card (they were here in Provo today) and they are going to be shutting this [ornery] forum down by the end of the week. Make hay while the sun shines."

Can we get confirmation or denial of that?

Why would they do that?

Is it really a shutting down thing or a stopping supporting thing?

"Shutting down" sounds injurious. "Stopping supporting" or rather "Not supporting" is what I do to telephone solicitors for charities with undisclosed administrative expense ratios.

Shutting down could mean removing the site from the web, closing the forums but leaving ornery.org up, or a number of other actions.

To me "no longer supporting" would mean that some notice would be given to the community that the card's are no longer paying for the site, and if we wish for it to continue to exist, some other mechanism for paying for the cost would need to be developed.

Well, since they will continue to be out of town for another couple of days they likely won't be responding soon... In any case, while their space to discuss has been a gift, it certainly isn't something we are entitled to and I'm sure there is little to no financial motive for its existance (not that it isn't an interesting place to discuss!).

Edit - Read the whole thing... its going down for maintenace and the mod was having some fun with people. Ne panic pas.

Do, read the whole thing. I would like to see improved manners on Hatrack too, but it isn't as toxic as it is at Ornery. I was being hyperbolic, so no, Ornery is not going down any time soon.

And after our lovely conversation, Kent, you had to punish me with irate emails from people? Thanks so much [Smile] Please pass the word on Ornery, there is absolutely, positively, no such plan.
