My friend Dewey recently read the Alvin Maker series (or rather her husband read it aloud to her), and she noticed that OSC often used the words vigor and measure aside from the times that he's referring to the characters of the same names. She wondered why and if those words hold any significance for him or if that's a Mormon thing. Can anyone shed any light?

I don't think it's a "Mormon thing".

I thought it was an "era thing." The people in those books speak a language from a different time.
