Well, while my home business still generates the big bucks at times, Portland's economy is making it really difficult to generate the accounts that generate the big bucks. Sending out transcription work is often viewed as a luxury when you can get a cheap machine for under a hundred dollars and make your admin assistant do it for twelve bucks an hour, as opposed to five dollars a page.

So, while I'll keep the transcription business open for bonus bling, I'm currently looking for a full time job as a primary source of income. I mean, apart from what I mooch off my husband.

For Portland-area Hatrackers: I'm doing some serious networking at this point. The economy has been making job-hunting a real bee-otch, and so I'm sendin' word out to my peeps to keep it real, baby - should something become available where you're currently employed send me an e-mail or yadda yadda if you feel so inspired.

I can pretty much manipulate my resume to make me qualified for anything short of airline pilot, lawyer or neurosurgeon.

Thanks guys. [Smile] (<--- encouraging smile)

Ralphie, I do wish you were here. Do you do graphic design? The BSA's looking for a graphic designer.

Unfortunately, I only know three people in the Portland area, of which one is unemployed and the other two live in your house. But I'll keep my ears open.

Good luck, Ralphie.

I'll keep my eyes open Toni...

BTW, I'd be ridiculously willing to do your admin work for $12 an hour...yea even $11. [Smile] If you're ever in the market, I'll send you my resume.

I know what it's like. I've been Portland job hunting for a month or so now too. [Wall Bash]

But you were going to be my ticket, Narnia! [Frown]

Okay, I'll keep my eye out for you, too.

What is UP with PDX? Why did WE get hit so hard?

Hey, as long as were begging for jobs. . . I'm looking for something I can do from home. I really should call that ticket to work program. If only I wasn't afraid of the phone. . . oh, the joys of insanity.

Oh, and Ralphie, it's because I've always wanted to move to the Northeast. Sorry. See, that kind of thing is my luck. I want to move there, so there are no jobs for anyone, much outsiders wanting to move there.

Want me to concentrate on wanting to move to, say, Texas? [Wink]

With sincerity, best of luck, Ralphie! The PDX area is really rough jobwise, so I hear. A friend of mine here wanted to move there to be closer to family. Ultimately, she didn't because she couldn't find a job. She and her husband decided to wait another couple of years, then try again.

So that's one less person competing for the job you're going to land. [Smile]

It seems like a nice place to live from afar (which it is, don't get me wrong) so a lot of people MOVE here...and there are no jobs left. It's also the home of the Silicon Valley, bringing MORE people who need MORE jobs...who thereby take them all. My brother has been trying to relocate his family up here and he's a media/graphic artist as well. Nigh impossible. [Grumble]

Narnia - Have you tried Monster.com? I had almost forgotten about Monster (how could I?) and there was a promising eleven pages of jobs in the fields I marked. That's not shabby.

Become a telemarketer, Ralphie. I can't think of many people I would rather have disturb my dinner than you.

Zan - I actually have done telemarketing. I shudder to think I'll have to relive the experience. Ugh.

Jamie - Thanks, sweetie. [Smile]

Try telephone collections. They're always looking for another shylock. I think you would do well.... [Big Grin]

Do you do PI work? I have a friend who hasn't seen her husband for over a month.

I was a skiptracer for a collection agency, you know, the guy who finds out where you've gone after you skip-out on a debt. It costs fat cash to get the resources.

It's also hard to find someone that leaves no credit trail. You wind up calling their old numbers, and chatting up relatives like an old friend. (By the way, it is illegal for anyone in third party collections to actually claim that they are an old friend.)

An interesting experience, but one I am glad to have left behind.

Hey there Toni-
From the viewpoint of acquisition of new furniture, only three sectors have remained strong throughout the recession: schools, health care and government.

You have so many great skills, and the best of which are your people skills. I'll tell you, anyone would be lucky to have you.

Here's an account specialist position that is open with the City of Portland. I didn't read the prerequisites, but the job description sounds right up your alley.

Wow - Thanks Christine. It's kind of you to do research for me!

It's almost an intimidating job description, but I think it may be the kind of thing I'd be good at. [Smile]
